Seeking a sample Custom Attribute Editor Dialog

Are there any samples out there of a custom attribute editor dialog?  I'm looking for something that shows how you can hook into the dialog (or replace it) and fire custom events when users want to change attribute (before they commit the change, just making the change in the dialog).
