ASTER GDEM2 visualization problem

Hi everyone,
this might be a very stupid thing but it is driving me crazy... sorry I am not very expert with GIS.
So I am trying to get a DEM for the base cartography of my project. I downloaded the ASTER GDEM2 tiles for the area. They work fine on GRASS. I don't get anything on ArcGIS! I use ArcGIS10.
I added the tif files with "add data" and I only see gray squares. The values are all wrong!
What did I do wrong?

oh... found it! I have to apply statistics for the DEM! OK!

I have the same question.  Can you tell me where you found information of the statistics you have to apply?

just go on the DEM properties, select the symbology tab, you should have the stretched menu selected on the left; at the bottom of that window click the Statistics drop-down arrow and switch to the unselected one, it should calculate the statistic for the whole area I think.
