noData=noData=0 given giving unexpected results

Question asked by tsmith@agi.com on Aug 22, 2012
I have a javascript api (v3.1) app that is calling an raster hosted on my ArcGIS Server (v10.1).  I??d like to remove any ??black? that is in the raster.  When I add the noData=0 parameter into the REST string, it seems to remove more color than just the black.  The image created on the server looks fine, but on the client is coming back with just the outline of the color variations.

Here is my REST call that fetches the raster:

http://<myArcGISServer>/ArcGIS/rest/services/myService/ImageServer/1/image?bbox=<myBoundingBox>&format=png&pixelType=U8&noData=noData%3D0&interpolation=RSP_BilinearInterpolation

The 2 attached images show when and when I don't use the noData parameter.

Am I using the noData parameter correctly?  Is there another parameter that needs tweaked?
