Add XY data--problems

Hello All,
I am attempting to georeference a list of lat-long points, and am having some issues. I have followed the instructions for "adding xy data" in ArcGIS help (version 10), as well as these tips:

http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=986&t=292279
http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/25074-problem-with-quot-add-xy-data-quot-can-t-select-x-y-fields-%28dropdown-empty%29

I began formatting my points in excel, and then I made another text file version (see attached notepad file). My map data frame, and all of its original layers, are in WGS_1984_UTM_Zone_14N. When I add XY data, I import X as longitude and Y as latitude. My study area is in Oaxaca, Mexico, but all the points in the events layer are put out to sea. I have attached a screen shot to show this--the square on the upper-right area is the basemap, and the red dot in the lower-left is the events layer.

I am not sure what is going on here. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but the extent of my original layers vary from the new event layer.

Exemplary original layer: Top = 1784552.457405 m, Bottom = 1773331.106754 m, Left = 630360.047083 m, Right = 633967.695496 m.

New event layer: Top = 17.597940 m, Bottom = 17.369120 m, Right = -97.199400 m, Left = -97.376520 m

Any help would be most appreciated!

Thank you.
