Layer Credentials

Question asked by geonetadmin on Aug 17, 2010

We have implemented an SDE server here, and one employee was tasked with recreating our layer files to point to the SDE shapefiles rather then the old shapefiles.

Unfortunately, after he was done we noticed that all of the layer files contained his SDE login info.  Now, anytime anyone uses a layer, they are automatically logged in to SDE with his info.  Company policy states however that every user must have and use their own login info.  So basically, a generic "everybody" login is out of the question.

We also have different permissions set for different users to keep certain confidential information within specific groups.  Since the layer files all currently have admin rights, it breaks down that security.

At this point I am trying to figure out how to strip the credentials from the layers, or create them without saving this information in the first place.  Any assistance with this would be very appreciated.  Apologies if this belongs in a different forum - I was unsure whether to post it here or under Arc Server.
