issue with 10.1 tutorial cd

I am using the 10.1 tutorial CD and when I try to upload data from the United States.gdb, it only shows up as a folder and I am unable to upload any content.  I know that it is there because I can get to it from my lap top, just the lap top is too slow and stalls.  Is there something I need to download, or is the problem I am using Microsoft 8.1?  Any help would be much appreciated.

The File Geodatabase is look like folder in Windows explorer but when use ArcCatalog you can view the content and copy / paste the content. I can't figure out the problem but I hope this will help you.
