How can I see how many users there is in GeoNet?
it currently doesn't appear on this site as in its predecessor, whether it appears is surely a design issue...weighing need versus screen real estate
I thought that I can not find it somehow
Those statistics are not publicly accessible. When we migrated the old forums over we brought 30k+ accounts that had existing content attached. As of yesterday, there has been over 18k members that have actually signed into GeoNet.
And before someone says that is a loss of 12K...just remember that not all the original accounts were still active
Dan Patterson, that's correct. That covers 4 years of accounts. And at a month in we have half that number (new and old) already logging into GeoNet. For the two weeks post UC we have been adding about 700 on an overage weekday.
From my point of view, since the first days I joined, GeoNet is an extremely successful idea, because it is not just a professional network, like Linkein for example, of social network like facebook, but it is professional, specialized network. I think both the GeoNet and the idea for such network have great fututre. As far as I know, GeoNet is the first in the world professional, specialized network, and so far the only one, so ESRI leads the way again. In the future it is very likely that there will be other networks of this kind. This is why for me the debate which is better - the old forums or GeoNet is a little pointless, all the advantages are on the GeoNet side. I was asking about the number of the users, because I think if the number is publicly accessible, this will have stimulating effect on the users and the newcomers, I think so. At least it will have this effect on me, because it is stimulating to see how the community grows and to know that there are so many people you can communicate with on GIS topics.
In response to this, is there a place on GeoNet for suggestions (similar to ideas.arcgis.com)? This would be a great suggestion to add - number of users. Awesome response and I like the way you are thinking!
We are working on opening up an ideation module for the help space. This will allow you to provide ideas and will let others comment and vote on them. For the time being you can post in GeoNet Help and tag with "GeoNet Feedback”.
I think plenty of peoples argument would then be, why not develop GeoNet as a standalone professional specialized network and leave the forums as they were separate. I have no problem with the idea of GeoNet, I find it very interesting to meet and get ideas from people with different GIS experiences and background then my own, but the old forums was really more of an extended support/troubleshooting ArcGIS problems and questions, which doesn't per se fit the model of a networking site(like GeoNet is), so why try to fit it in when it doesn't exactly fit?
It's possible that you can look at a user who just signed up and has zero points and look up their ranking. This may give a rough number of how many users there are.
Yes, of course, there is always way to fliter the newcomers and see, but that was not my point.
Hehe, I was just hoping for a quick a dirty answer!
Though, I did like your comment about how knowing the number of users will help with advertising and growing the community. I also liked your comment on how Esri is leading the way with combining the social and, professional, and specialized networks together. I am happy to see how GeoNet will grow.
