I would like to set up a new group. Only members should be able to post new entries like blogs, events etc. Further, these posts should be approved first before they are actually published. How can this be achieved?
Hi Lars Schmitz --
You can get about 60% of what you are looking for with groups.
Only members should be able to post new entries like blogs, events etc.
You can get this by making the group Members Only or Private. Whichever you choose depends on the sensitivity of the content (there is the 50% of what you are asking).
Further, these posts should be approved first before they are actually published.
Groups are designed to be fairly flat in their permissions. Everyone can do the same thing in the collaborative spirir of the group, with owners having a few elevated permissions like managing the member list and adjusting the layout of the group overview or action page. Events and blog posts do not have any approve-before-publish option, but documents do. You cannot force people to do that, but you can let people in the group know that if they want to post a doc, they must add approval of the group owner (found under the Advanced Options when creating). That is your final 10% to getting what you are asking.
May I ask what are the specifics? Why you would need to require approval before posting of blogs and events in your group? It would help me find you a solution
According to the documentation, this doesn't appear to be an option https://community.esri.com/docs/DOC-1152
Perhaps it is too much control whereby the owner of the group gets to approve only what they like
Thanks for your fast reply, Dan. I think you are right in that approvals are not foreseen for groups. However, this is what I would need for my purpose.
I posted the link to this thread in the private MVP group which is frequented by others that may know more...a link has been made back to this thread so hopefully you will get some resolution to your question
Hi Megan Truett.
Thanks for your clarification. I really like the openness of the groups, people will like the fact that they can collaborate. Howerver, as distributor, we also envision a more managed channel to post information for our community in Germany. This includes blogs, hosted events, webinars etc. How can we achieve this with GeoNet?
Remember that this is a user-based community and not a traditional marketing channel so I think a group could still give you a place to post blogs and event info. You just also allow your users to add to the group as well.
