"An unexpected failure occurred..."

I am working with a street centerline personal geodatabase.  I would like to add to my feature class two roads from another version of the centerline. I tried to copy and paste the desired centerlines from one feature class to the other and got this error:

"Paste: An unexpected failure occurred.
The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data."

The two versions of the centerline feature class have the same attributes but I have added a few more columns to the version I am working with.

I then tried to draw the new centerline addition in myself and received this error:

"Create: An unexpected failure occurred.
The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data."

So what's going on here? Why can't i add more data (copy/paste or draw) to my line feature class?

I'm using 9.3.1.

Thanks in advance for any help!
