Crop extent of polygon shapefile

Discussion created by jpehoski on Oct 15, 2013
I have what is probably a simple problem, but I've been working on it for far too long. I'm trying to do a point density analysis for the continental United States. I had a polygon shapefile of the entire United States which I used "Create Layer from Selected Features" on to give me just the CONUS. When I run the Spatial Analyst>Density>Point Density tool, it produces a raster that is the same extent as the entire USA. I've changed the Processing Extent to the extent I want, but because my conus layer has a large extent, it still produces a huge raster. How do I change the layer extent so my output rasters don't contain so much empty space?
