Export To PDF - Embed Document Fonts Issue

Discussion created by deleted-user-VeC5jUIlNXtq on Sep 30, 2013
Hey all,

I wasn't able to find any posts like this, apologies if they exist (please point them out).

We produce environmental alignment sheets and typical export process is Export to PNG then use Adobe to convert to PDF.

This allows all fonts/symbols to export properly, at the expense of a little quality. Recently we tried Export to PDF and noticed that (obviously) the quality is significantly higher. However, we noticed randomly that fonts were being exported incorrectly, and displaying as weird characters. Notice that not all text elements are affected, yet there is literally nothing different except maybe the actual font size from 6 to 8.

Background info: we use standard Arial font as text, nothing crazy. It affects some annotation groups, but not others (screenshot yellow label should be a section-twp-rge-meridian label).

Anyone have any idea? The only way it will export properly is if we turn off "Embed all document fonts"

See the screenshot, and let me know if anyone has any clue what's happening.

Edit: ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 Basic. No additional custom fonts being used etc...
