pathdistance question

Discussion created by ctweeddale on Aug 4, 2010
I need to calculate the water pressure gain downslope from a road, and I think the pathdistance function in Spatial Analyst should do it. However, the problem with water pressure downslope is that it increases, so I kind of need a "most-cost path" rather than a "least-cost path". I've used the pathdistance function for calculating the water pressure lost when going uphill, and that works very well. It doesn't seem to work as well for downhill, as it comes up with a long round-about path to avoid the steeper slopes...

As a workaround, I could probably use the cumulative downslope elevation change, but I'm not sure how to get that either.

Any suggestions?
Thanks
