Can anyone help with a question, a census question .. more particularly the census block groups you have posted http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2012/03/21/2010-u-s-census-datasets-are-now-available/ .. once downloaded and compared to the census 2010 blockgroup from www.census.gov I determined the population counts for the block groups are different.  Attached is an example of some block groups from los angeles region .. one tab with the block groups (and id) and population counts from the Esri (above link) and a second tab for the same block groups from www.census.gov

My question is .. why is the Esri population counts different that the same blockgroups 2010 downloaded from Census?

Thanks!

Hello Warren,

We researched your question and came up with different results than you.  When we compared the Esri 2010 Total Population of BlockGroups to that of the US Census (American Fact Finder) they matched.  For example:

We pulled these figures from American Fact Finder:

Block Group 1, Census Tract 1926.10, Los Angeles city (part), Los Angeles CCD, Los Angeles County, California -  Total 1368
Block Group 2, Census Tract 1926.10, Los Angeles city (part), Los Angeles CCD, Los Angeles County, California -  Total 889

And this matches our values.

060371926101 1368
060371926102 889

However, the values on your 'Downloaded from Census' tab on the attached spreadsheet are different:

060371926101 1324
060371926102 882

I'm not sure why your totals differ.  Could you tell me exactly where your totals are coming from?
