I am using WAB 2.0 standard Search Widget. Is it possible to change search criteria on the fly. e.g. "st" work with "street". Thanks for your help!

That should already be possible in your locator that the search widget is using. Unless you are not talking about a locator and you are referring to a Feature layer.
