Hi Marko, ArcGIS Online added support for the Authorization Code flow with PKCE in the March 2020 update. ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 will have the same support when released later this year. Sincerely, Philip

We plan to have Map Viewer Beta available as an optional overlay (i.e. a separate installer) for ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 later in 2020. As Robert has surmised we don't plan to include it in the primary ArcGIS Enterprise setups until it is ready in a non-beta version, but we recognize that many customers are interested in beta testing it with ArcGIS Enterprise in addition to ArcGIS Online and want to provide that option. Stay tuned for more information later in the year as we get closer to ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 Cheers, Philip Philip Heede | Sr. Product Manager – ArcGIS Enterprise

As Kelly mentions, we have tentative plans around providing Map Viewer Beta on top of ArcGIS Enterprise in the future. Currently, the idea is it will be available as an extra optional install on top of ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 around the middle of 2020. Beyond that, the new Map Viewer will be built into a future version of ArcGIS Enterprise after it has been officially released (i.e. it is out of beta). Stay tuned for more information on concrete timelines!

This presentation may also help explain these two terms in more detail: Best Practices for Layers and Service Types - YouTube (see from around 2:25 and a few minutes onwards). Using the concepts from that presentation a feature service is the raw web service (REST) endpoint found at the functional or GIS Server tier. The feature layer is an item found at the information model or portal tier and sits on top of the raw feature service itself and provides additional features and control. The two terms are often used a bit imprecisely as synonyms. For the most part the distinction doesn't matter too much but when developing or troubleshooting it can be important to distinguish and understand the difference.

Certainly not. All of the advanced data modeling capabilities, like topologies, attribute rules, and more are exposed primarily via traditional geodatabases. You may have seen some of those capabilities start showing up for hosted layers as well, but that but no means should be interpreted as a push to move users from one to the other. It's about giving choice between managing the underlying data yourself (user-managed via your own geodatabase) or by the system (ArcGIS-managed). I'm curious what advanced features you have seen show up only for hosted layers that aren't also available via your own geodatabase?

Hi Timothy, I'd like to point you to the whitepaper that we recently published that speaks to the various data storage options within ArcGIS Enterprise including ArcGIS-managed options like ArcGIS Data Store vs. user-managed options like a traditional geodatabase based on an RDBMS that you manage directly: Data in ArcGIS: User Managed and ArcGIS Managed The main comment I want to address is your statement that " ESRI is moving users to use the Relational Data Store ". This is certainly not the case. There is no requirement that you must move data into the relational data store nor is there any intention to push you towards that option if it isn't appropriate for you. Sincerely, Philip

Chris, The latest 10.6 release of ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Microsoft Azure allows you to save the automation artifacts so that you can script the deployment once you've designed it using Cloud Builder: You find this option on the summary page at the end of the builder wizard. Take a look at the documentation at Automate your ArcGIS Enterprise deployments on Microsoft Azure—ArcGIS Enterprise | ArcGIS Enterprise Cheers, Philip

Hi Christopher, Beyond the Chef questions you're specifically asking, I would highly encourage you to look at the ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Microsoft Azure given that you're deploying in the Azure environment. Chef is a great technology for on-premises installations (bare metal, VMs) and cloud environments where Esri does not provide specialized tooling. However, for cloud environments like Azure or AWS where there's specialized tooling we strongly recommend using those tools. See ArcGIS Enterprise on Microsoft Azure—ArcGIS Enterprise for how to get the Cloud Builder and how to get started. Cheers, Philip

Hi Mark, ArcGIS Pro can publish different kinds of services to ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise. Each of the two environments support different service types- e.g. ArcGIS Online supported hosted feature layers (powered by underlying feature services), hosted scene layers (powered by scene services), and hosted tile layers (powered by cached map services). Publishing from ArcGIS Pro to ArcGIS Enterprise supports all of those same layer types as well as the many others that you are familiar with from prior ArcGIS Server including traditional dynamic map services that many in this thread are looking for. This presentation from the UC 2017 hopefully helps explain the architecture of ArcGIS Enterprise including the relationship between ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS (both of which are part of ArcGIS Enterprise): ArcGIS Enterprise: Architecting Your Deployment - YouTube (slides: http://proceedings.esri.com/library/userconf/proc17/tech-workshops/tw_738-330.pdf) One of the points in this presentation is that it is certainly possible to have multiple components of ArcGIS Enterprise on a single machine. It all depends on the size of your hardware and your scalability needs now and in the future. Cheers, Philip
