I have an MP4 video that is currently hosted on our own ArcGIS Server. I can load that into a Story Map no problem, but the user has to hit the play button to watch it, which I'm not a huge fan of. Is there a way I can get my hosted video to play on a loop in the background of my Story Map (Cascade)? Thanks!

Is there information out there on video file size that an Esri Story Map can hold? Additionally, are there specific video file types that Story Maps only accept? I'm working with a .mov file and curious if it can be uploaded. Thanks!

Hey Randy, Thank you for getting back to me! Your descriptions help but unfortunately due to my lack in Python skills, I can't seem to produce anything. All I did to your first script was change the geoDB and excelWB environments to my working documents. When I run your first script, I get this error (see graphic below) and all it produces is one table in my geodatabase called "Domain1", which isn't correct. I know I'm missing something - I'm guessing I have to change something more in your script but I can't figure out where. I have my Excel document with domains attached. Any insight would be helpful! Thanks

Hi Randy, I came across your two scripts here and was wondering if you could help me out a bit. I'm fairly new to working with python and am having a hard time understanding exactly what you have here. I understand that I need to put in my own geoDB and excelWB, but do I need to name the individual sheets in the workbook inside the script somewhere?

I'm trying to find a way to seamlessly go between Excel and a file geodatabase; everything from creating a gdb from a properly formatted Excel document and then once that gdb is created, go back into the Excel document and make changes if needed to then update the gdb to reflect those changes. I've found a few options but keep running into hiccups. So any insight would be helpful! I've been made aware of X-Ray for ArcCatalog. This is a great add-in! I've been able to do a fair amount of things with it. I've been able to create and edit the group of Excel documents from a file gdb, but once I make changes in those Excel documents, I don't know how to bring those changes back into the file gdb. I've also found this tool that creates a file gdb from an Excel document but I unfortunately don't have this extension: The Excel files used to create a geodatabase in Defense Mapping Solution—Help | ArcGIS Desktop I've also played with editing XML workspace documents, but I feel most people are more comfortable working in an Excel environment (myself included!) Any advice?

Hey Jennifer. Thank you for the X-Ray suggestion! I've been playing around with it and was curious about a few things. So I've created those several Excel files and now would like to bring them into a blank geodatabase. Do I need to save the individual Excel files to XML format before importing the scheme to a file geodatabase? If so, which file format do you use? Essentially once you have these Excel files created, what is your process of updating and maintaining them to then bring into a new geodatabase when needed?

Um that isn't exactly what I'm looking for...I can provide more context. Our DB Administrator is requiring certain fields that must go into any new feature class we make. There are 11 fields with specific data types and properties. Instead of manually entering those into the new feature class dialog box, I would like to import them. In Excel, can we set something up where the field types and properties (in addition to the field names) would transfer over during the import? Does that make sense?

I'm experimenting with taking fields from an Excel file and importing them into a new feature class. I understand that the field names you have in the Excel file will transfer over to the field names in the feature class, but what about data types and field properties? Is there something I can setup in my Excel table (or maybe a text file is better) that when I import data into a new feature class, the field name, data type, and field properties are already setup in the new feature class? I'm working in this dialog box if it helps: Thanks! Edit: Our DB Administrator is requiring certain fields that must go into any new feature class we make. I have created a shapefile and joined an Excel table to this shapefile to populate the attribute table. This shapefile is for someone else in our department (end user) and so I wanted to add Field Aliases to help them understand the field names. When I export the shapefile with the joined Excel table, the newly created shapefile does not retain the Field Aliases I set. This is an issue for the end user of this data may be exporting data from this shapefile in the future, thus losing those Field Aliases... Why is this happening? I understand that working in a file geodatabase may resolve the issue, but the end user of this data prefers shapefiles. Any thoughts of suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Okay so tried that and I feel you may be onto something but I'm wondering if the fact that I have pages is a problem. When I used your suggestion, the interim pages (5 and 6) still appeared but blank. So the user still have to hit "Next page" to get to the end of the survey. It didn't bring them there automatically. I'm thinking I may have to restructure my survey...
