With moderate volume, the best practice recommendation is to have an ArcGIS Server that is dedicated for GeoEvent Processing and another (or cluster of) ArcGIS Server that is dedicated to hosting Feature Services, Map Services, GP Services. Doing this helps isolate stream processing on GeoEvent Processor from other GIS services and allows GeoEvent Processor to have full access to resources on its isolated instance. The role of the EGDB (Sql Server) would be to back your Feature Services for persistence. Does this information help? Adam Mollenkopf ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor for Server - Product Lead

Thank you for the good suggestion. A while back, the Esri St. Louis regional office developed a GP Tool (Python script) that creates a Feature Service from a GeoEvent Definition that we have been using internally within Esri. We are working with the creator of this tool to get it posted as a sample on the GeoEvent Processor gallery. We will post an update to this thread when in becomes available. Hope this is helpful, Adam Mollenkopf ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor for Server - Product Lead

The ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor Software Development Kit (SDK) can be found in folder named 'sdk' under your GeoEvent installation folder (on Windows that would be 'C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\GeoEventProcessor\sdk'). Within that folder you will find a 'GeoEvent Processor Developer Guide.pdf' and folders that include the 'api', 'lib', and 'samples'. We were originally planning on releasing an output connector for Tracking Analyst at the 10.2.x releases but in testing with early adopters we identified significant issues that we could not overcome in the 10.2.x time frame due to impedance mismatches between GeoEvent Processor and Tracking Analyst. The GeoEvent Processor team is planning on being able to connect an ArcGIS Desktop client to a live streaming output from GeoEvent Processor at the next major release, ArcGIS 11. In the meantime you can use 'Add a Feature'/'Update a Feature' output connectors to write data from GeoEvent Processor to Feature Services (with Time) and have your desktop client configured in "live mode" to see the latest known information on the Features. If you have an an input on GeoEvent Processor that is consuming events off of a JMS Queue from ActiveMQ then it would be plausible to stop your GeoEvent input during your maintenance window and then restart it when your maintenance is complete. Your JMS Broker, in this case ActiveMQ, would accumulate events on the queue during the time the input is stopped and when the input is restarted it would consume all pending messages off of the queue. The error message is saying '... cannot access the file because it is being used by another process' which would indicate that something else is holding a lock onto the file and GeoEvent Processor cannot open it. Can you please ensure that you do not have the file open in Excel or another program and retry and let us know if this corrects the situation? Thanks, Adam Mollenkopf ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor for Server - Product Lead

It is known limitation at 10.2 that the 'Write to .csv file' output connector does not properly output fields on GeoEvents that are field groups . Please try to use the 'Write to .json file' and expect you will see the results you are expecting. You can copy and paste the contents of the produced .json file into an online formatter like jsonlint.org to see it in a more readable format. The 'Write to .json file' output connector supports Field Groups and fields that have multiple cardinality. Chris - I wanted to clarify what we are planning on releasing at the Winter 2013 ArcGIS release. At the Winter 2013 release we will have improved support for server connections to ArcGIS Online as well as server connections to Portal for ArcGIS. At the Spring 2014 release we are planning to support the federated security model used by Portal and AGOL for enterprise authentication and at that time we will switch to utilizing the ArcGIS Server/Portal "User Roles" and "Identity Store". Hope this helps to clarify and set expectations for timing of these capabilities, Adam Mollenkopf ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor for Server - Product Lead

The latest version of Chrome (which automatically updates for you) is not compatable with with one of the internal JavaScript libraries (Dojo) that we are utilizing. It is a known issue that it is affecting the GeoEvent Definition and Log pages of GeoEvent Processor Manager. We are in process of creating a patch for this that will make the pages work again in the latest Chrome (will be avialable shortly). The workaround for now is to use another browser (Firefox or IE) until you can apply the patch. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, Adam Mollenkopf ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor for Server - Product Lead
