Hi! Jay, Yes, your understanding is correct. I had asked for 6 closest paths to be computed to an incident from 20 facilities. This particular route was the third closest based on time it takes to traverse. But it could have been the second closest path if it had not veered from the path simply on the basis of restriction, as there was no other reason for it to veer. This makes me believe that I have to use hierarchy if the goal is to be very accurate for finding all 6 closest paths by rank. Thanks Jay, Shilpa

Hi! I don't know if this happens for sure... Have you checked if any of the destinations have a common 'label' or 'Name' attribute on which you are locating the facilities? ('Network Locations' tab on Layer properties). At 'Load Locations' window, if you had picked that field as a 'Sort Field', maybe it does not pick the second occurance of the same value in that field. I had two addresses as '200 Main St', but in two different cities. Network Analyst created routes to only the first one. Shilpa

Hi! all, I hope I get some insight on this... Given everything else constant, if a network does NOT have a hierarchy built, does the closest facility that gets picked gets picked on the basis of 'Restriction'? I noticeed that a route was created for a closest facility in my network (without hierarchy) that veered from the feeder road (with restriction) for a short distance (along a small loop of minor road that is two way, and without restriction) only to continue on the feeder later. Feeder has higher speed while the minor road has lower speed. There is no connectivity problem nor there is a 'direction digitized' problem on the portion of route that was not chosen. Thank You, Shilpa

Hi! I have tried to alter various connection parameters at destination, but none works and I get a following error: " Installed ArcGIS version is '10.0.2414' An ArcGIS license is already checked out. The product checked out is 'ArcInfo' Could not open the Enterprise Geodatabase. Please check that the connection parameters specified are correct. The error number from ArcObjects is: '-2147216021'. The error message from ArcObjects is: {Entry for SDE instance not found in services file} Closing the Geodatabase writer A fatal error has occurred. Check the logfile above for details" Any suggestions? Thanks, Shilpa

Hi! I was wondering what the settings in the 'Change Multiple Feature Types' window help with for data translation. Can I use it to tell the tool to ignore the schema domain on one of the fields and accept the values that are fed to it as they are? Please refer to the image attached. Thanks, Shilpa

Thank you Jay! I was able to solve it using OD cost metrix. I was stuck on closest facility because I thought I may have to draw routes. But OD went so much faster. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for all the leads Jay. for some reason, ArcMap did not like my Field name (ADD_PT_ID_I) inside incidents. After I renamed it (to match ADD_PT_ID), it worked fine. And yes, I need actual time computations using my speed limit field, so I have been using closest facility; just not drawing actual routes on map. But now my arcMap crashes after solving about 75% when I specify 4 facilities to find by rank. It must be because I have 172000 addresses to begin with. When I solve for 1, it gives me a good result. Anything more than 1, and the map crashes. Any ideas? Thanks, Shilpa

I have 172,000 addresses for which I am finding 4 closest facilties (EMS Stations) by rank. If I add an ADD_PT_ID inside my address table, and add a field inside incidents, I am unable to load locations as incidents. I am field mapping Lable_Name to Name; and the newly added field to ADD_PT_ID. It loads to 100% when I am looking at the status, but gives out 0 in the end. Can I not import the ADD_PT_ID into the incidents? My network featureclasses are inside mxd; and I have ArcInfo. Any help would be helpful! Thanks! S B
