I have the same problem. I was able to fix it by just creating a new map and re-adding the layers but not convenient.

I always use the second method you described: Click once on a cell in Excel, then right-click and choose paste. You're right, it SHOULD paste the individual columns. I'm wondering if this is something that cropped up in 10.8.1, because until recently I was able to consistently use copy/paste without a problem. However, it now seems to consistently not work. At first I thought maybe it made a difference whether I was copying from a shapefile vs. a feature class, but that does not seem to be the case.

From Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro, it can be done by 1) rotating image on screen, 2) creating a custom paper type in the plotter properties, e.g., 17x11, and 3) setting orientation in the Adobe Print dialog box to portrait. This gives the desired result. Still testing how to rotate output from ArcGIS.

Thanks to Dan and Steven for your suggestions. I noodled around and found an excellent tool from Jenness Enterprises called Tools for Graphics and Shapes (Jenness Enterprises - ArcGIS Tools ). Simple to use, and did exactly what I needed with no fuss or bother.

Rick, before you do what I have suggested, right click your legend and choose properties. Go to the items tab. On the left side, right-click the feature you would like to change the style of and click style. Maybe one of the styles doesn't have the date attached? Let me know! Tim
