Hello, I have a table in MS Access ([Loc], [Date], [Label]), which I want to use to populate labels in ArcMap 10. i.e., each location on the map gets a label box with the field header [Date] and [Label] followed by however many records for that location on subsequent lines (note: the number of records may vary between locations). Do you know of any VBScript code I could use for the label field Expression? Thanks!

There is a better tool for this in the Spatial Statistics Tools. It doesn't include any fields you do not want. Export Feature Attribute to ASCII Thanks for the reply. How would this work though using a table as an input rather than a feature layer?

Hello, I am in the process of creating a model that will take GIS features and create all the necessary inputs needed for use in an external 3D modelling software, including legend files. What I'm struggling with is getting the legend file into an appropriate csv output with only very specific information (e.g., no extra fields, or records). Using the "Additional Conversion - Generic Tools" http://resources.arcgis.com/gallery/file/geoprocessing/details?entryID=95009B25-1422-2418-7FB5-B8638ECB2FA9 tool I am now able to export a table to a csv. However the csv still contains an ID field (i.e., first field) which I would like to remove automatically through the geoprocessing model. Is there some simple python code I can use for this and if so how do I incorporate it into the model in ArcCatalog? Thanks!

Hello, I would like to do the following: http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/31064 However I am using ArcGIS 10. I do not appear to have an ARConfig.exe file in my C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Bin. There is one in my C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcReader10.0\bin, but I am unable to open it even though I have a Publisher license (error message as attached). Thoughts or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have a georeferenced basemap and a few shapefiles (point and line) which I will be needed in CAD. Do I need to export them in any particular format or can I simply have them as a georeferenced tiff and point&polyline/polygon shapefiles? Thanks for your expertise.

Hello, I would like to run a geoprocessing model within Access (part of a series of tasks). As a test, I created a basic command button that called the event procedure shown below (essentially pulled from here: http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/31110), however, it crashes and shuts down my database. The very simple test model runs correctly within ArcCatalog 10. Help? Private Sub gpModelName_Click()
Dim pGP As Object
Set pGP = CreateObject("esriGeoprocessing.GPDispatch.1")
On Error GoTo EH
pGP.AddToolbox ("C:\ModelPath\ToolBoxName.tbx")
pGP.ModelName
Exit Sub
EH:
MsgBox pGP.GetMessages(), vbOKOnly, "Error. Please run manually: <b>ModelName</b>"
End Sub

A possible way around it is to create a new feature layer where you join the attribute table of your layer to the hyperlinks table, in essence creating new features for each hyperlink record. Some features will overlap since you have many hyperlinks per feature. You could then make your new hyperlink layer features transparent in your map. When a user uses the hyperlinks tool they will only see the blue feature layers, which when selected will give you a list of which hyperlinks at that particular location. Hopefully you get the gist.

Hello, I have a map which I am publishing to be viewed in ArcReader. I have 2 layer groups which I do not want visible at the same time (i.e., both can be turned off, or one or the other can be turned one, but not both on at the same time). Is there a way to do this? Thanks for your thoughts.

You can use Feature To Polygon tool to convert the ellipse lines to polygons, if they don't overlap. Thank you for the suggestion, however this tool is only available to ArcInfo license users. I have an ArcView license unfortunately. Any further suggestions would be welcome.

Hello, I have created a model which includes the following: Database table (input) --> Table to Ellipse (tool) --> Ellipse polylines (output) As I need polygons, I used ET GeoWizards' Polylines to Polygons tool for this purpose. It worked fine with my smaller dataset of about 9 records, but crashes with my larger dataset of several thousand. Is there another workaround? You would think ArcGIS 10 would have something as simple as convert polylines to polygons and such, but have not found a suitable tool yet. (Note: buffer not suitable in this case as this is an ellipse not a circle) Thoughts?

Hello, I am plotting points from a table through an event theme. However, the locations in the table are actually wells, so therefore lines. The point coordinates are for the top of the well. Is there a way through symbology to extend a symbol's length a certain distance in real world coordinates (i.e., not layout measurement). As I zoom in and out of the map, I basically want the length to stay relative (maybe cheating by setting to a specific extent?) and not static. I want to avoid doing any extra geoprocessing as the table is the only place that should be updated. I would appreciate your thoughts.

The following VB script is from http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=987&t=106536 I tested it with a mxd containing a point file and a line file, the point file being first in the TOC. Do not run it in Edit mode. It works as long as the points are not at the beginning or end of the line as this results in lines of zero length. Sub SplitAll() Dim pMxDoc As IMxDocument Set pMxDoc = ThisDocument Dim pMap As IMap Set pMap = pMxDoc.FocusMap Dim pPointL As IFeatureLayer Set pPointL = pMap.Layer(0) 'point layer to split lines with Dim pLineL As IFeatureLayer Set pLineL = pMap.Layer(1) 'line layer to be split Dim pLineFC As IFeatureClass Set pLineFC = pLineL.FeatureClass Dim pPointFC As IFeatureClass Set pPointFC = pPointL.FeatureClass Dim pPointCursor As IFeatureCursor Set pPointCursor = pPointFC.Search(Nothing, False) Dim pPointF As IFeature Set pPointF = pPointCursor.NextFeature Do Until pPointF Is Nothing Dim pPoint As IPoint Set pPoint = pPointF.Shape Dim pSF As ISpatialFilter Set pSF = New SpatialFilter With pSF Set .Geometry = pPoint .GeometryField = "Shape" .SpatialRel = esriSpatialRelIntersects End With Dim pLineCursor As IFeatureCursor Set pLineCursor = pLineFC.Search(pSF, True) Dim pLineF As IFeature Set pLineF = pLineCursor.NextFeature Do Until pLineF Is Nothing Dim pPolyCurve As IPolycurve Set pPolyCurve = pLineF.Shape Dim pToPoint As IPoint Set pToPoint = pPolyCurve.ToPoint Dim pFromPoint As IPoint Set pFromPoint = pPolyCurve.FromPoint If (pFromPoint.X = pPoint.X And pFromPoint.Y = pPoint.Y) Then 'do nothing ElseIf (pToPoint.X = pPoint.X And pToPoint.Y = pPoint.Y) Then 'do nothing Else Dim pFeatureEdit As IFeatureEdit Set pFeatureEdit = pLineF pFeatureEdit.Split pPointF.Shape End If Set pLineF = pLineCursor.NextFeature Loop Set pPointF = pPointCursor.NextFeature Loop End Sub Thank you for the code. While I have not had an opportunity to try it out yet, I should probably clarify as maybe it wasn't quite clear in my problem definition, that I only have a list of station names, not their actual coordinates. The only stations that I do have coordinates for are the ones at the start and end of the line. Based on this, I would like to position the other stations along this line as point features.

Hello, What I have: - I have a line which is correctly geographically referenced. - I know that the start and end nodes correspond to specific stations (i.e., points). - The stations are sequential numbers based on some variable distance (e.g., Station 3408.52 is 2.91ft from Station 3405.61) - this distance may vary between stations. What I want: - I want to correctly position each station as a point along this line. My proposed procedure: - Create a table of all stations in sequential order, with a field containing distance to next one. - Using the table, break the line at the set intervals (in sequential order) - Export polyline nodes to a new point feature class (e.g., using ETGeoWizards) Problem: How do I tackle my second step?

Thank you for your reply Eric. Since I use ArcGIS 9 (not 10), I took the "Introduction to ArcGIS 9 Geostatistical Analyst" free virtual campus course (http://training.esri.com/acb2000/showdetl.cfm?DID=6&Product_ID=808). How does the course you suggested (albeit for a version I do not have) compare? In your previous message you said that the semivariogram cloud in my pdf didn't appear to show much spatial autocorrelation. How did you arrive at this conclusion? What would the cloud look like if there was spatial autocorrelation? Would there be spatial autocorrelation if for instance most of the data values lay along the bottom x-axis (around y = 0), while at the same time, a number of values hovered along the top of the graph. Thanks again for your thoughts and patience.
