I'm getting a VS error indicating 'ESRI.ArcGISRuntime.Data.Geodatabase does not contain a constructor that takes 0 arguments'. If the Geodatabase class actually had such a constructor I would provide the necessary arguments. See attached. Using ArcGIS Runtime for .NET Desktop SDK 10.2.7.1234.

Thanks Christian for the workaround and Dan for the ESRI bug reference. Using all caps does the trick.

Unfortunately that has been tried without success. The correct db instance value is being passed into Create Geodatabase Connection function. The heart of the issue is the function internally converts nomsqapp4d\nomsqapp4d to a string with a line feed, which I have no control over.

The Create Geodatabase Connection fails when passing an instance parameter containing escape characters. For instance, passing 'nomsqapp4d\nomsqapp4d' fails because the '\n' is interpreted inside the arcpy tool code as a new line. This can be verified by calling the function via Python and through running the tool itself in ArcGIS Desktop. Note that the example instance name is a standard company format and can't be changed. Is there any way around this issue or should this be logged as a bug?

I had to write a batch tile downloader with the SDK that uses predefined polygons to select out tile cache areas to download. I needed coverage across a dozen states of a linear network within a 1 mile buffer, which had to be automated due to the massive amount of cache needed. Unfortunately I had to do this for a client and can't provide the source, but will entertain any questions on how it was done.

Thanks for all the info. I'm aware of the ArcGIS Online tile services but am not fully understanding the licensing and use constraints. Do individual ArcGIS Runtime licenses provide full access to this authenticated service?

The .NET Runtime app I'm developing is in need of nationwide (US) street and imagery base maps for all zoom levels. When connected the app can use ArcGIS Online base maps, however, I need tiled based maps for offline use. I'm looking to side load the tile caches and am looking for source data options. I've seen the samples of downloading ArcGIS Online tiles at runtime, but this strategy has two caveats: Forces users to download tiles before they go offline The available ArcGIS online data services (i.e. World Street Map) are limited to zoom levels 0-9. As far as I can tell, there seems to be a gap for providing tile caches for ArcGIS Runtime SDKs like .NET apps that go offline. I am hoping there are other solutions besides a massive endeavor of creating custom base map tile caches. Is the ESRI Data Appliance a valid option? Are there any other options out there?

Thanks for the quick response Antti. I actually did mean ArcGIS Runtime for .NET (Desktop SDK which equates to WPF development) instead of the older WPF Runtime. Sorry for the confusion.

I have a client who wants a .NET field mapping application developed. Their target hardware are Toughbooks running Win7. I was looking to use the WPF ArcGIS Runtime SDK. However, the application will need to support touch, drag, pinch, etc. to interact with the map. I was wondering if there are going to be any limitations, either with the Runtime SDK and/or Win7, in supporting touch and gesture capabilities required for the map? Thanks for your help in advance!

After troubleshooting with tech support this issue was caused by a known bug in 10.1: it looks like you are running into "NIM086984 The Python Multiprocessing Module returns error 000714 when run from a script tool and if the 64-bit Background Geoprocessing upgrade is installed, but works when run from a 64-bit Python IDE." It looks like this bug is specific to 10.1 SP1 with the background geoprocessing installed. The workarounds are: 1) Run the script from the python window 2) Run the script from the command line 3) Unistall Background Geoprocessing 4) Upgrade to 10.2 or 10.3

If this helps here's the relevant code I'm executing: # Convert buffer polygon features to lines arcpy.AddMessage("Converting polygon to polyline.") line_result = arcpy.PolygonToLine_management(buffer_result, _scratch_workspace + "\BUFFER_TO_LINE") # Dice arcpy.AddMessage("Dicing.") dice_result = arcpy.Dice_management(line_result, _scratch_workspace + "\BUFFER_DICE", kwargs["dice_vertex_limit"])

Below are the results I've had under all scenarios. I have the 64-bit GP Background Processing installed so ArcMap should be using 64-bit Python, although it may use 32-bit when disabling Background GP (I've seen conflicting documentation on this). Running package outside of ArcMap 64-bit Python: success Running Custom tool in ArcMap Background GP enabled: error Background GP disable: error Running System Toolbox --> Dice tool in ArcMap Background GP enabled: success Background GP disabled: success
