Another question: I successfully uploaded a zipped shapefile of parcels to ArcGIS Online, published it as a feature service and was able to create a map that I can use in Collector, exactly as needed. The next question is updating the data. We have regular (monthly) updates to our parcel layer. I can see where to update the parcel shapefile in ArcGIS Online, but that doesn't seem to update the feature service that was created from the shapefile. How do I go about updating the feature service that the map references? Do I need to delete and re-publish it every month?

Thank you Tom! I figured I was overlooking something obvious. I usually do. In my defense, I'm still learning ArcGIS.com Do you happen to know if I will be able to do this with Portal? I know it will be included with the next version of Server, and I'd prefer to keep everything in-house.

Thanks Riyas. Unfortunately, everything we have is file based in either a file geodatabase, personal geodatabase or shapefile (something I should have mentioned initially). The layers I want to be able to take off-line are in a file geodatabase. Perhaps what I should have asked is: can I create a sync-enabled layer from a file geodatabase?

After reading through various ESRI help documents, it seems like the only way to take maps offline into the field is with ArcGIS Mobile (which is currently not an option for us) or with the Collector app. To take maps offline with Collector, at least one of the layers needs to be sync-enabled, and the only way to publish a sync-enabled map service with Server is if the source is an enterprise geodatabase. Which means that to take maps offline, we either need to purchase a license for ArcGIS Mobile, or a license for SDE. Is that correct? What I need to do seems fairly straightforward: Inspectors need to be able to identify specific parcels while out in the field, often in areas with no cell coverage (else they could simply use the ArcGIS app for iOS/Android). No editing, feature capture or data collection, just feature identification from their current location. Am I missing something? Is there another way to take maps offline with what we currently have (ArcGIS Desktop Advanced 10.2.2, ArcGIS for Server Workgroup Standard 10.2.2)?

I asked this in the Flexviewer section, but as I'm not sure if the problem is with Flex or Server, I'm asking it here as well. Using desktop & ArcGIS for Server, I successfully (I think) created a custom print service using my own templates. I followed the tutorial and the recorded training seminar and I thought I had done it correctly, but I'm still getting an error when I try to access the service in my Flex applications (both 3.1 and 3.4). When I click the "Print" widget, the tool opens correctly, but when I click the "Print" button on the tool I get the following error error: Error executing print task: [RPC Fault faultString="Unable to complete operation." faultCode="400" faultDetail="Error executing tool."] The thing is that I don't get an error if I have my own cached basemap turned on. It only appears when I'm using one of the ArcGIS Online basemaps (or Bing). And that behavior is the same regardless of which flex application I using. Any ideas? Thanks!

When I click the "Print" widget, the tool opens correctly and I can see the label modifications I've made in the xml file. But when I click the "Print" button on the tool, I get an error: Error executing print task: [RPC Fault faultString="Unable to complete operation." faultCode="400" faultDetail="Error executing tool."] The thing is that I don't get an error if I have my own cached basemap turned on. It only appears when I'm using one of the ArcGIS Online basemaps (or Bing). And that behavior is the same regardless of which flex application I using. Any ideas? And here's another thing: when it does work (with the cached basemap), it seems like it's pulling the print page (either PDF or JPG) from the browser cache, as it often pulls up the previous map rather than the current view. Is there a way to force it to create a new map rather than pull it from the browser cache (this happens in both IE & FF)? Thanks!

OK, this seems like it should be a simple fix: I update the data on my various flex viewer applications once a month. That means turning off numerous map services for a short period of time. Even though it's only 1/2 hour or so, at the most, I regularly get emails & phone calls (usually from the same group) complaining that the site is "broken". What I'd like to do is redirect the site to a temporary "being updated" page. I've gotten it to work - sort of. I have duplicate versions of both 'index.html' and 'default.htm' which show what I want, and I can substitute them for the original versions. The problem is that the viewer is so heavily dependent on cached data that the new "being updated" page won't load until the user does a page refresh/F5. And unless they think to do so (most don't), they will continue getting the "failed to load" error. Is there any way to force the application to load a fresh version?

Is there an easy, reliable way for my users to get the capture date for imagery in a particular area in the flex viewer? I see two dates in the source credits on the map - Microsoft 2013 and Navteq 2010. I know that the imagery for my area is from 2010, so I'm assuming the Navteq date is the correct one (although there's nothing to indicate which of those two sources is the imagery). I found where to get specific dates from ArcGIS Online - http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcgisonline-content/index.html#//011q0000001z000000 - but it'd be nice to have that info from within Flex directly. Am I (once again) missing something obvious?

I've run into the same problem and can't seem to figure out how to resolve it. I've already got several flex apps up and running which I built without the Application Builder. I'd like to move them to 3.4, and figured I'd give App Builder a try, but cannot seem to get it configured so I can get started. I have the "Web Server Base Folder" pointed to the folder where my flex apps are stored, and the "Web Server Base Folder URL" pointed to the correct URL, but still get this error message. My current main viewer (in 3.1) is at http://gispublic.co.lake.ca.us/flexviewer/index.html I have the "Web Server Base Folder" as C:\inetpub\wwwroot and the Base Folder URL as http://gispublic.co.lake.ca.us (I've also tried simply http://gispublic) I've tried adding a "viewers" subfolder to that location and pointing both lines to that, with the same results.

I've configures Server Manager 10.1 to use our Windows Domain, and I'm trying to figure out if there is an easy way to assign all users the role of "user". I've looked in both the "users" and "roles" tabs and don't see any way to add them other than one at a time.

I'm also having an issue getting a popup working, and hope someone can point out what I'm doing wrong. I've got 2 set up (at least in theory). One of them, PopUp_Parcels, is working correctly. The other, PopUp_WS simply doesn't "pop up" at all. For the life of me I cannot figure out where my error is The pertinant bit of my config.xml:
<operationallayers>
<layer label="Watersheds" type="dynamic" alpha="0.5" url="http://gispublic.co.lake.ca.us:6080/arcgis/rest/services/watersheds/MapServer">
<sublayer id="0" popconfig="popups/PopUp_WS.xml" />
</layer>
<layer label="GeoTIFF Images" type="dynamic" alpha="0.8" visible="true" url="http://gispublic.co.lake.ca.us:6080/arcgis/rest/services/BWS_GeoTIFF/MapServer" />
<layer label="Culverts" type="dynamic" alpha="0.9" url="http://gispublic.co.lake.ca.us:6080/arcgis/rest/services/culverts/MapServer" />
<layer label="Base Layers" type="dynamic" alpha="0.8" visible="true" url="http://gispublic.co.lake.ca.us:6080/arcgis/rest/services/BWS_base/MapServer" >
<sublayer id="9" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_Parcels.xml" />
</layer>
</operationallayers>
and my PopUp_WS.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
<fields>
<field name="HUNAME" visible="true" />
<field name="HANAME" visible="true" />
<field name="HSANAME" visible="true" />

<field name="SubWS" visible="true" />
</fields>
