Hello, Thank you for your detailed question. Typically, maritime security begins with situational awareness of both infrastructure and dynamic elements, such as vessels and weather, in addition to threats for which you may have internal data. The Maritime Chart Service, one of the demonstration items in our team portal, is an ideal base for maritime infrastructure because it uses ENC directly, regardless of how the ENC are compiled. Outside the USA, you will need to purchase S-63 ENC from a supplier, typically one of the RENCs such as IC-ENC. Other data sources may include: World Port Index NGA Mobile offshore drilling units (MODU) NGA EEZ (Living Atlas) Esri Gulf of Aden shipping schema – such as this - if you do not have ArcGIS Maritime Server: Global Shipping Routes – Newer routes may be different due to the implementation of the routes above. Anti-Shipping Activity Messages – NGA NAVWARN – NGA (HYDROPAC 9 –IX region) AIS – Multiple Sources such as Spire or MarineTraffic Weather – Living Atlas for Starters Underwater Cables Bathy – GEBCO for starters. Here is an example webapp to inspire your results. You will need to have an ArcGIS named user license to access it. Please let me know if this is helpful. Guy

Hello, I think I will need a bit more information about what you are attempting to study so that I can successfully answer your question or help find someone who can answer it. For examples of how people use GIS in ocean science and maritime, I recommend starting with the science landing page: https://www.esri.com/en-us/about/science/overview and The Living Atlas ocean projects page: Projects | Oceans (arcgis.com) I hope these links help you to refine your question. Cheers, Guy

S-101, the replacement for S-57, is not yet a finalized specification. The S-101 Project Team met in JUNE to discuss the progress of S-101 Edition 1.1.0 that is planned for publication at the end of 2022. The next full S-101 PT meeting is in November to finalize S-101 edition 1.1.0 and then a full S-100 WG meeting in December to approve it. S-101 Edition 1.1.0 will be the next baseline before releasing S-101 2.0.0 for operational use in mid-2024. S-101 Edition 1.1.0 will be baselined against S-100 Edition 5.0.0. S-100 Edition 5.0.0 was endorsed by IHO at HSSC 14 (May 2022). Official publication of the document will be this summer but S-101 and other IHO project teams are already updating schemas and product specs to use S-100 Edition 5.0.0. There are a lot of contributions coming from IHO stakeholders right now and the project team is looking for industry to support S-101 1.1.0 for a focused testing effort in the first half of 2023. This also aligns with our Pro 3.1 release.

It may help to know the graphics card and memory (both graphics and overall) in your hardware. I'm no expert on such things, but this kind of performance seems memory-oriented.

There's also some innovative work in Southeast Alaska by Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) Herring Fishery assessors. They used disconnected editing to identify and mark herring spawn from aerial surveys. They also use Experience Builder for the map results. See more about this effort at this link, and note they are looking for feedback on this new method.

It is fun to follow from Constanta to Rotterdam the Danube/Donau/Maas, just like the Missouri/Mississippi and Ohio/Tennessee/Tombigbee/Mobile river systems in Inland ENC!

These are bathymetric expressions, not side scan sonar images, used for identifying boat-like shapes from gridded #BAG data. Note that this type of bathymetry identification is indicative of what can be done with repeatable patterns in the high-resolution source grids, regardless of the type of object being identified. Often, the hardest part of a machine learning tool is finding a good data set with which to train the engine; in this case, the NY State data set was ideal, as so many boats were sunk in Hurricane Sandy and NOAA did a survey right after the destruction.

NOAA also published this podcast interview of Coast Survey's Chief of Marine Charting, Captain Edward J (EJ) Van Den Ameele, who explains the tradition and interest in continuing to have a paper nautical chart while also preparing for future services. The improved Custom Chart tool will enable new approaches to serving non-navigational users, too! "EJ Van Den Ameele: You know, I’ve always liked advancements in technology, while certainly honoring the tradition of nautical charts, so I think it’s exciting because we’re trying to do both. We’re trying to honor the purpose of nautical charts, the tradition of nautical charts, but do it in a modernized way. It really enables users to have the most up to date information, as well as to better specify exactly what their needs are and what they want from the custom chart. So I think it’s exciting to see and try to meet both of those needs and requirements."

Hi Nathaniel, It might help to be more specific about the types of questions you would like to ask about sedimentation and hypoxia, and how they relate to the use of ArcGIS Bathymetry in addition to ArcGIS Pro spatial analytic capabilities. I also recommend looking at the variety of recorded videos, many from the Ocean, Weather, and Climate Fora from past years', that you can find on Esri's Events channel with keyword search. For example, the first hit is a presentation by Heather Vollmer of APTIM of their LASAAP beta last year - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W2w6N-CeYI Thanks, Guy

An update to this thread - If you are looking for ways to show AIS information in ArcGIS, The Living Atlas has US AIS information in a performant service for last few years here. The explanatory link below is from @KeithVanGraafeiland 's presentation at the NOAA Coastal GeoTools virtual conference. There are several AIS information providers, including partner Spire who offer content and analytics (Pro add-in) through the ArcGIS MarketPlace.

Hi! Thanks for the additional context, and in addition to this great justification for continuing support for a viewer of ENC content in Pro, I also encourage folks interested in shoreline vector extraction from imagery to sign up for the upcoming May 2021 webinar: https://www.esri.com/en-us/lg/industry/government/arcgis-automated-workflows-and-machine-learning-techniques-for-coastline-extraction Guy

Hi Mike, Can you explain your desired functionality (easy to use) and specifically what the Viewer does that you cannot do with, for example, the free app ArcGIS Earth using imagery layers with NOAA's ENC On Line public web map feed? https://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/ENCOnline/enconline.html is the link to the web viewer maintained by NOAA Coast Survey. Here's a screen grab of the Gulf of Esquibel in SE Alaska I just put together in ArcGIS Earth using above plus the available World Imagery service, both with some transparency: Thanks, Guy
