Hi Stef, I talked to an ESRI analyst at the UC. Though she didn't have a quick and hard solution for us, she did offer some good advice! Once you have created all your link points, before hitting Update Georeferencing, save the link table. That way, if it doesn't work, at least you can re-load the links when you go back to try it again. She also said that what is causing it is probably some errant pair of points (or link). She said to really pay attention to what is on the link table. If there's a row that's amiss or has an usually high RMS, delete it, then try to update. If all else fails, just rectify.

I just started having this problem. I've been using ArcMap since...since...well, since it was ArcView. Anyway, I've never had a problem with the georeferencing tool, but now I am getting this exact problem running 10.5. It just started doing it yesterday. Completely out of the blue. I haven't changed any setting (that I know of). And the option noted above by @Brandt Meyer IS unchecked. Any other ideas?

To Joabelb and Pattersonc, It appears that with the current version of ArcMap that I have, it is not possible to process the RPC file. I eventually had an image processing vender do it for me.

Dear all, I have a followup question to my earlier request. How do I activate spatial analyst? I have added the extension but I do not see the tools icon that would take me to spatial analyst regards minti Go to Customize (in the menu bar) then Extensions. Click the little box next to the extension you want to use then close the dialog box. You should be able to turn on the Spatial Analyst tool bar after that (right click on the menu bar, then scroll down the list of tool bars. Also, the idea is to calculate the rainfall at your farms, right? That's the question you want to answer? Once you interpolate the rainfall values over an extent that covers your farms, then you can extract the values from the interpolated surface to your farm points. (Look up Extract Point Values)

What do the points represent? Is there data associated with those points, like elevation or chemical concentration or some other numeric value? Or do they represent something like vegetation type? Now, why do you want the data in raster format? If the points have elevation data associated with them, is your aim to create a topographic surface? In that case, you'll probably want to use one of the Interpolation tools in the Spatial Analyst Tools in ArcToolBbox. I've always used the Topo to Raster (using contour lines, of course), but I'm sure you can get similar results with the IDW or Kriging tools to interpolate those values across a surface. Did that help?

I believe ArcMap reserves certain field names for its use. You could rename your field to something that is not on their reserved list?

Ah! Found the answer! Though I did all the things describe below before, I didn't do it exactly this way. But for those who might be wondering (as I was) do this exactly and it will work: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/64221-Modifying-Raster-Extent?p=222546&viewfull=1#post222546

Hello all, I know this is something simple, and I've tried looking for it but couldn't find anything exactly like this: I "clipped" a raster data by using the Raster Calculator with the Environment Settings-Raster Analysis-Mask set to a much small box in a polygon shapefile. When I load the raster into the data frame, I get the data I want, but the extent is the same as the original raster. Why is it doing this? This is fine for display, but I can't do anything to further processing with it because all other outputs end up with the same extents. I tried using the Extract by Rectangle as well (on the newer file), but the extent remains the same. I am running ArcMap - ArcView with Spatial Analyst on Windows 7. Thanks for any help

Well, one thing you can do is use the Image Analysis tool to sharpen the image and change the contrast so that the Image Classification tool will pick up the features that you want. Then you can, of course, convert the resulting raster into polygons. Once you have the polygons, you can fine tune them with the standard feature editing tools. Does that help?

I guess another thing to check is if the projection is correct (or the same) for both raster sets you are creating the new raster from?
