You're welcome! I had to make an update to the feature class this morning, and when I did, I used the Field Calculator to update attributes of a few features. Easy and didn't require an edit session. Glad to hear things worked out for you! Andrew

I left it as unregistered for right now. Since I don't make many edits to that feature class, I'll re-register it when I need to add new features and whatnot. There are also ways to add features to a non-registered feature class, check this out: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//003n000000s8000000 However, you lose the ability to undo and redo edits. I was always told that versioning could be quite powerful if you know how to use it correctly. Good luck, Andrew

Hi Annaliese, I determined that I was performing edits on the default version, too. I believe that there are many different "sub-versions" of the default version, so by unregistering the feature class and compress your edits, you're consolidating all of those "sub-versions" into a master version. I was able to remedy my problem by unregistering my feature class and compressing my edits into to the base table: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/Unregistering_data_as_versioned/003n000000s4000000/ If you don't check that box to compress your edits, you'll lose all of your edits! This compresses all versioned edits made to the version to which you are connected only. If you did not complete step 1 before unregistering but did check Compress all edits in the Default version to the base table, you will lose any edits made to versions other than the version to which you were connected. If you did not complete step 1 before unregistering and did not check Compress all edits in the Default version to the base table, you will lose all edits in all versions. Good luck, Andrew

Is there a way to calculate slope over a given length, in terms of percentage? For example, calculate slope over a 100 meter line: 25% of the 100 meter line has a slope of 0-20% 50% of the 100 meter line has a slope of 20-40% 25% of the 100 meter line has a slope of 40-60% Is this possible?

Wow... So, ESRI told you to uninstall 10.1 completely, re-install 10.0 and then patch it to SP3? Once you get the tool to work, then you'd have to uninstall everything and re-install 10.1 and patch to SP1. That is a JOKE! That can take over an hour with the way the ArcGIS installer works. I hope they're paying for time lost on your projects. I also have a call in to ESRI, but their analysts never called me back. So much for customer service.

Hi Adam, Yes, I believe I added the new features to the "child" of the default version. Unfortunately, when i use the "version manager" in ArcMap with my feature class loaded, it shows the only version as default. Should it display the child versions? Also, I don't have reconcile and post as options in my toolbar when i'm in an edit session with the feature class. Also, I cannot find "move to base" function anywhere... only the "unregister as versioned" within the Toolbox. Would this suffice? Thanks, Andrew

Hello, I'm new to the spatial view world, and I my spatial views aren't updating when I update the base feature class. Here is my situation: We have several spatial views built from a script. The views were created using different definition queries, but they're all from the same base feature class. The spatial views are used on a production server within a web mapping application, so they have locks created by the ArcGIS server service. The base feature class has been "registered as versioned" in order to create and add new data. When I added new data to the base feature class, the spatial views didn't update with the new features. Is this because of the "locks" on the spatial views from the server service? Why aren't they updating? Shouldn't they update automatically? Thanks.

Has ESRI contacted anybody on this thread regarding their slow editing experience? I hate to begin any ESRI bashing here, but the "slow editing" has been around since 9.3.1. Previously, I thought it was due to editing features within shapefiles on a file system, but now I'm editing features that are stored in our SDE instance and the editing experience is still dreadfully slow. So slow, in fact, that my snapping tool doesn't even work. The only way to get around it, that I found thus far, is to open a new session and only drag in the layers that require editing, as well as a reference layer. Pretty pathetic considering that this performance problem has been around for a while. And no, it's not my network or server that is the problem.

see here http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/0154/01540000030s000000.htm It doesn't contain any information regarding which outbound ports Desktop uses. I already know that 6080 is an inbound port on my server, but I need client-side outbound ports.

hello, I'm using the basic ISS Authentication model for simplicity and I want to secure our mapping services using tokens and the IIS authentication built into the JSAPI proxy security. I only have two requirements for doing this: -Don't ask the end-user to log in to the mapping application again after logging into the website (via basic authentication) -Prevent folks who didn't authenticate with IIS from accessing the web services. Is this possible? I read about it and the page pointed me to a Microsoft site saying it had instructions, but I'm clueless here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa292471(VS.71).aspx Also, how would I configure my proxy.ashx page to interact with IIS? We're using the web adaptor, if that matters. Thanks for your help.

I'm trying to find out which ports ArcGIS Desktop uses to publish map services to an instance of ArcGIS Server. I need to cross multiple networks to access a forward-facing server, and I need to open up the ports to allow communication between the server and I. Does anybody know? Thanks.

Has ESRI looked at this thread lately? We're running a gigbit network here and the performance with ANY feature class within a file geodatabase is very, very poor. In ArcMap, it took 27 seconds to select a label for a layer that's stored in a file geodatabase on our network. Pretty pathetic if ESRI's workaround is to tell you to work locally.

Is it possible to run the Javascript API within a website utilizing masterpages using ASP.NET? I have my code within the <asp:content> region, but for some reason, the map window still takes up the entire window and it pushes the masterpage navigation to the outside of the screen, at the very bottom. Is it a conflict with the CSS, or is it not possible to have a mapping application within <asp:content> brackets? Thanks.
