Many clients that I consult with have continued to use Web App Builder and legacy apps, even at ArcGIS Enterprise 11.1 because - as they say - simple widgets/functions were not available in the released Experience Builder embedded inside 11.1. Other clients have adopted the use of the Developer Edition of Experience Builder, which has benefits but requires workarounds for admins and additional authentication steps for users. At the 2024 Dev Summit it was suggested the Living Atlas content would be 'refreshable' from within the Enterprise Portal, and this was well received. That comment made me think that it would be ideal if the Web Map and Experience Builder components could also be updated periodically via patching or similar activity. It's probably not appropriate for the Short-Term Support Releases, but for the Long Term releases an update of the embedded Experience Builder would be greatly appreciated, and if possible then the Map Viewer as well. I understand that EXB is released quarterly in ArcGIS Online, but even a biannual update would make a significant difference to many admins and users.

The only thing I can think of is this warning of having things installed in the right order from Esri: https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/system-requirements/latest/windows/arcgis-web-adaptor-system-requirements.htm#:~:text=If%20you%20installed%20the%20ASP.NET%20Core%20Runtime%20%2D%20Windows%20Hosting%20Bundle%20before%20enabling%20IIS%20and%20the%20required%20components%2C%20you%20must%20repair%20the%20bundle%20installation%20using%20the%20bundle%20installer.

An ArcGIS enterprise (portal and federated servers) can not be referenced by one alias. Internal and external users must all use a single subdomain like. https://gis.domain.com/portal/home typically we design for external usage and use split DNS to creates internal and external aliases. It is impossible to have different names, so if you have existing content on an internal alias you either need to start again or use the internal name on the web (probably not a good idea). Esri professional services have a way of changing existing content to use a single new alias, but otherwise it’s unsupported. ultimatelu it all comes down to not being able to have a single webcontexturl in the portaladmin properties.

Yeah - that's not an approach that I'm familiar with. Under the Pros/Cons sections, it uses the word "isolate". I've always taken that as to perform a 'restore' within a VLAN or (otherwise) firewalled off environment. There used to be 'hooks' to server names as well as Alias names in there, that may no longer be the case, but for 'assurance' I'd be isolating the machines. This would remove my concern that the new machines are trying to communicate with the legacy machines. I think my advice at this point would be to reach out to Esri support or professional services.

Can I ask if your new servers are totally isolated from the old servers? The new environment needs to exist in a totally partitioned/firewalled environment so there is no overlap between old and new. I've seen several people on the forums who hadn't realised that and were, in effect, restoring back to the old servers.

Ouch, I've read the provided link. I've seen a couple of issues with the developer edition, but I'm going to be straight up and say that my 'value' is in the bit between the operating system and the APIs. When it gets into the 'app space' then there are some far more qualified people than I. Sorry, I'm going to sit that one out. I can say the Con Terra solution would prevent that from happening, as it actively hides the layers the user is not allowed to see. Not only does it provide advanced security, but saves time/stress on solving these sorts of issues, saves time on publishing/maintaining multiple services and it reduces the need for cloud/IaaS resources to support the multiple web services and their instances... Frankly, I think it pays for itself in a short period of time.

I’m never sure if we should share products outside of Esri’s own. But I have used this approach in the past: https://www.esri.com/en-us/arcgis-marketplace/listing/products/414b815740f94a88b5fc8779c2cad2dc

Hey, to the best of my knowledge this has never been available for referenced services. We’ve always created multiple nap image layers, with the appropriate capabilities and permissions set on each service. So one has feature access with edit in and an edit group. One has feature access with select in a view group. its inefficient in so many ways but the only option if not hosted.

Personally I disable the primary site administrator. It’s then forced to use the portal password. The PSA should always be closed as part of best practices. It only gets used during build and upgrade in my sites. I’ve never had an issue with this, but so far not used 11.2.

No. Just stop the iis and reapply. It will go over the other files with no wa reinstall needed.

A lot of people stopped the IIS service. Then applied the patch. Some files were locked by IIS and so were not updated. Stopping IIs released those locks. I’ve done several 11.1 upgrades but not seen these performance issues. I regularly see the log entry you showed. However it never seems to impact performance/reliability. I had wondered if it related to unreported user observations, but across multiple clients no one is complaining about error at the time of those log entries. It’s almost like a false positive.

Every case is different. There are some very detailed documents aimed at uber-architect type people, but the way that Enterprise is used now, i.e. very fluidly, it's actually a dark art to get it perfect.

Yeah - it's not my favourite option, but it's the one that involved least work. But only works if the data is migrated and ready. The old machine can be turned off (and will not be turned on again) and then the DNS applied. My preference is to use DNS up front, and have a \\datapath\ UNC alias, that can be swapped from server1 to newserver, but when it's retrospective like this, there are limited options.
