Hi, I have a plus account for Power BI and I recently subscribed to an AGOL developer account so I could create and post feature layers in Power BI. Do I need to maintain the plus account as I'm signing into the Power BI/ArcGis visual using my AGOL account?

Hi, I have update 1.0.0.95 on my machine and I still have the problem. I'm not sure if this matters but, I use an AGOL account with the visual. Also, this may be unrelated but, I have two Pc's, one which I do my development work on and the other for presentation purposes. Although I'm using the same AGOL account on both, one displays all the Organisation reference layers while the other doesn't.

Hi Anthony, I thought I would let you know that the fill error indicated above is not an issue. It appears that I just didn't apply the "no fill" attribute correctly. Sorry, another question for you, how long does it take for an update to a layer to filter through to the ArcGIS Reference Layer library?

Thanks Anthony, very much appreciated. However, it seems silly to me that you need to subscribe to AGOl to create the feature layer for Power BI and having created the layer as you would like it are unable to display it in Power BI. Is there a way or referring this as an issue to be addressed? Also, the area fill error is a major concern, is there a workaround for that?

Hi Anthony, I've been able to get my account working. I've created feature layers which I edit in AGOL and when shared to Power BI have the incorrect boundary fills and are not displaying point labels. I've attached some screenshots from AGOl and Power BI which I hope better explains what it is I'm talking about.

Hi Josh Jones, I had some issues with the AGOL subscription which are now resolved. Of the issues indicated in the post, the only points outstanding are; 1. Point Labels not appearing in ArcGIS Feature Layers in Power BI which Anthony Latini is aware of. and; 2. Feature Layers in Power BI are made public, which I hope you can help me with. "The requirement to share your layer publicly is only the case if you do not have a private ArcGIS Online organization. As long as you're signed into your ArcGIS Online account in Maps for Power BI, your layers can be privately shared within your organization. Layers must be shared publicly if you aren't signed in since there is otherwise no way to reach those layers." Are there instructions on how to restrict the hosted reference layers created for the organisation in ArcGIS for Power BI?

Hi Anthony, My apologies, I assumed I would have received an email if there was a reply to my post. Just as an update, I've upgraded my subscription as a creator as of today and although my content is still present, the data behind the content seems to have disappeared or is corrupted... ESRI Au and I are working through how to retrieve the data. I'll send you a link when the feature layers are operational again.

I've created a feature layer which includes boundaries and boundary labels which are visible when viewed in the map viewer with ArcGIS Online. However, when I access the layer in Power BI, the boundaries (and fill colours) are visible but the text labels are not. Any workaround or solutions?

An online subscription does allow for the creation of feature layers used in Power BI. Thank you to staff at ESRI Australia for clarifying and for the offer of a 21 day trial account. However, my first tests indicate issues such as place and point labels aren't coming through.

Sorry, another idea for future upgrades is to allow the visual to be used in the embed and publish to web functions... after all, we use it to promote the use of your visual as a part of the solution.

It's been 4-5 months since I posted this question. I gave up and started using Map Box because it got closer to what I required. However, there's been an update for ArcGIS for Power BI with more boundary selection options, so I have re-subscribed and although this solves one issue, it's still not the complete solution I require. What I want to do is include a point reference layer with a boundary layer... perhaps that's a suggestion for a future improvement. However, my immediate requirement brings me back to making a custom reference layer... do you think I can find a simple answer on how to do this? I get that I may have to subscribe to a paid online membership but, do you think I can find a subscription that makes sense. Every option includes services I don't need. All I want to do is transfer my ESRI formatted shapefiles, share the file publicly (which I don't understand why it has to be public) and then access the file as a reference layer in Power BI. So a couple of questions here, does a paid for online subscription actually allow me to share layers to Power BI and, is there a more realistic cost for this simple service?

I have tried everything suggested by the tutorials. I have Shapefiles created by myself and 3rd party agencies, I've uploaded CSV, GEOJson, Json files and not one has prompted for this hosted feature layer checkbox that I'm supposed to click on to make it available (and PS. when they upload without an error that is). I am at my wit's end trying to work out how to make this layer available to my #Power BI maps.

G'day Scott, Unfortunately, I don't seem able to get past the first base with this. I can see when uploading to ArcGis Online where the file is saved as a "Publish this file as a hosted layer" file when you add a file. However, I'm not sure how I output a file from ArcGis Pro to get to the upload stage. Each time I've tried to publish I get the following error and there's nothing to indicate how to save the layer as a shapefile (or any other file type) in Pro (that I can find).
