@LailaKalva -- Did you ever figure this out? If you have already tried to reach out to your organization administrator and not had any luck, you can also try contacting Esri Support to see if they can find a record of your account.

Hello! I have a similar problem. Does anyone know why it's often get this strange error with JSON Object Name option? Maybe this is some kind of bug? Very interesting. Thanks.

Thanks Brian. Link above updated. I have not yet had time to verify the process still works four years later. 😁

I think @BrianBaldwin has the right answer here. I'd add, though, that the ArcGIS Python API can be a bit bloated for single-purpose scripts like updating a feature / layer. Odds are you only need a couple of the submodules or dependencies, and the rest will be wasted space. If you use the requests and json modules, you should be able to do everything you need making POST requests to the feature layer's REST endpoint. We have a couple of lightweight scripts for updating single layers, and they can execute in less time than it takes to import the arcgis module.

We use a combination. Supplying data for students is predominately done via ArcGIS Online (AOL) the data can be share via a course group. We also use AOL as a repository for research data and imagery. Student have a 4 GB network drive space where they can save their project files and a small amount of data. For our upper level topics and research projects and sensitive datasets we have an enterprise geodatabase running on SQL Server. Using AOL allows us to also provide students with Named User licenses via the cloud, therefor minimizing licensing issues like give out standalone licenses. We manage our AOL via python scripting. We check each user is still enrolled or employed at the uni and if not their login is disabled and data backed up to a staging log in. Data is stored for three years for students and seven year for academic staff. Hope this is useful. Rob Keane

@wizgis - This was years ago - but I vaguely remember inserting a 'date-time' at the end of my CSV file name when I was generating the files. That way - GeoEvent saw the CSV as a new file - even if after parsing, some of the records had not changed or updated, but it worked to ensure GeoEvent saw it as a new file each time.

In ArcGIS Online - you could 'enrich' a dataset with this data using Map Viewer - there are a wide-array of variables related to recycling patterns. Your general workflow would be: 1) Get the geography level data that you need (US Counties/Zip/etc.) - this could be pulled from ArcGIS Online or from the US Census Tiger data. 2) Add your data to MapViewer - then use the Analysis tools and the Enrich tool to select the variables you need/want. If this is all brand new to you - you could easily 'google' any of the above steps and get some detailed documentation.

Yes for the first book I asked about it was for arcgis pro. This book is for arcmap 10.3. Do you know where I can download the data files for the exercises for the book? Thank you

I believe those settings are for a Hosted Feature Service rather than a referenced feature service? When you're running an enterprise geodatabase, you'd need to publish a map image layer with feature access, with the following options in Pro: Bear in mind that this would be a specific service for that user (or users like them). You would need to set security appropriately for that user and group. Hosted Feature Layer Views would be the way to go in a hosted model, but in registered services it has to be a specific service, unless you introduce third party security tools.

@DonnaWhiteside - The challenge in answering this is simply: what do they want to do with the data? If they just want to pull their data into the GIS for visualizing purposes of the interior spaces and buildings - then having properly georeferenced CAD data would be a big assist. After that - it really depends on what they want to do. If they want to load the data into an indoor information model then there are some extra steps that should be done. If that is the case - this website offers guidance for ensuring that the CAD to GIS (indoors model) will be as smooth as possible: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/data/indoors/cad-floor-plan-drawings.htm

@AyanPalit - Great question... and I wish I had a good answer! We have talked with faculty working in a range of different fields where the idea of a 'geo-graph' could have a lot of value - and this is something we definitely need to follow-up on more concretely - exactly how/where/why faculty could use this technology for their teaching and research. More to come in the next few months as we work to build out and share some of the case studies that we are seeing.

Thanks Brain for sharing your suggestions. I'm new to the community and was not aware of the indoors boards. I will definitely put up a post there too.
