Jeff - I am not sure you are the right one to ask. I am getting ready to make a tiled basemap for offline use on my company's Samsung T3 tablets. Collector just released version 17.0.4. Can VECTOR basemaps be used on collector with Samsung Tablets? arcgis collector* vector tiled basemap #mobile offline Thanks - Katy

Where are you publishing your feature service from? If you are publishing from ArcMap, you have to set the data frame of the mxd to web mercator before you publish. Here is an example below. Your local coordinate system and transformation will be different than mine, but this gives you the steps

My client does not like any of street labeling that comes with the ESRI Online Basemaps. We want to have our street labels as a feature service over the top of an ESRI basemap. Does anyone know of a ESRI basemap that does NOT have street labels? Even the Light Grey Canvas ESRI basemap has large labels that are large when you zoom in that conflict with my labels.. Creating my own vector basemap (the new ArcGIS pro type) will not work because they are using them in a 3rd party application that will not take vector basemaps. Thanks Katy

OK - after waiting patiently for the newest version of Collector (version 17.0.2 from June 28th 2017) so that I could connect to my R8 and R10 High Accuracy GNSS receivers, I now have hit a brick wall. No IOS devices do not connect to R8 or R10.. Anyone know how long it takes for bugs to get fixed or when the next version of collector will be released

Hey all - Looking at the latest update for using GNSS there is some great stuff with the newest release. We have successfully paired our Trimble R10 receiver to Collector by using bluetooth with our Samsung Galaxy T2 Tables. The GNSS Status app finds our R10 right away, but I am having problems with our R8. It has bluetooth and both my phone and my tablet see the R8 receiver but when I go to connect to the R8 with the GNSS app, it says no receiver found. Any ideas as to who I can talk to in order to get the GNSS app to see the Receiver? Thanks - Katy

I have had this probelm before when I change my mind on what fields I have clicked on in the mxd. If you have an mxd and you turn off fields 1, 3, 5 and 7, then close the mxd and reopen it later and decide that you want to have fields 1, 2, 5, 7 and 8 show, the mxd sometimes it does not actually turn on the additional fields you just clicked. I often have to reimport the layer into the mxd and then check the fields I want. Also you always have to RE-publish every time you change which field you want to show. Give this a try. Katy

This was in my Facebook feed today from one of my fellow GIS professionals. We need to find out what the heck is going on. It seems that a new bill has been proposed by Warren Hatch that would "Limit federal contracts to A&E firms for almost any mapping-related data collection, analysis, or use activity at the exclusion of vast swaths of current GIS, IT, and mapping industries and related organizations." According to this article by American Association of Geographers the bill would limit the “geospatial data” services proposed for restrictive procurement open only to licensed A&E firms by the GDA (see section 2 of the bill for the full laundry list) is wildly broad and encompasses data such as: “all information tied to a location on Earth”; nearly all GIS, mapping, cartography, and imagery data; data that is represented by points, lines, and polygons; data depicting the distribution of natural or cultural resources, features, or phenomena; “any data used by a Federal agency” Please read the link above, as well as this article published by GIS Lounge I would like for this issue to be discussed at UC. Thanks Katy

OK - a little experimenting and I answered my own question. Yes, publishing a SDE feature service from ArcGIS Server means all layers will inherit their behavior from what you enable when you publish the feature. The disable editing buttons on the layer in AGOL will not work. So to solve my problem I added all of the non-editable layers from my service as MAP service layers, not FEATURE service layers. That worked fine. I can still configure my popups etc. but the people using the collector will only be able to edit the two or three layers that are Feature layers. Katy

I have an mxd that I have published via Server and have added the url to my AGOL account. This enables me to edit my data where the data source is SDE so that I do not have to sync my hosted features back to SDE. This has been working perfectly for two years but now I have a new wrinkle. If I want only two of my 8 layers to be editable in AGOL, I don't think I can do that?? When I open the AGOL web map I have made from my SDE feature service an on the configuration tab and disable editing and disable show in legend, it seems have no effect when I look at the collector in my ipad. So,if I publish it as a feature Service from SDE, is it all or nothing? As in those perimeters have to come from the feature service when it is published from SDE and apply to all layers in the SERVICE an cannot be controlled by the configuration buttons in AGOL?
