Thanks for the reply @George_Thompson. Basically there is a larger application with many services. I am trying to increase performance on the app as a whole and have several services that I see a good opportunity of caching. They are constantly requested, but don't change often. Obviously they might be better suited as a vector tile service, but what I'm really after is discovering what I'm missing in the documentation. By themself, the performance is fine. Just to follow up with answers to the rest of your questions. ArcGIS Enterprise is deployed across multiple servers all running Windows OS. Portal/Datastore one machine, hosting ArcGIS Server one machine, db one machine.

I am running ArcGIS Enterprise 11.1 with a federated server and portal and an enterprise geodatabase. My enterprise is running on a Windows 2019 server using IIS. I have a map/feature service that references data from the enterprise geodatabase and is updated daily. I am looking to increase the performance of that service and was looking into caching at the browser level like in a web map or experience builder application. The two docs below discuss enabling a cache duration through server admin for a feature or map image service, but I can't seem to get this to work. I am adding these properties, but when I look in dev tools within my application using this service (like a web map) I see a new request being sent each time and a cache-control: max-age=00:00:00 property on the features returned. I looked at both the map image and feature service layer after setting this property. When I try to find more information on caching services, everything is related to tile caches which is not really what I am after. I would very much appreciate if anyone could shed some light on this for me and I'm tagging a couple of people here @PaulBarker @JacobBoyle412 @JonathanQuinn @RandallWilliams @JamesBallard1 @Nicholas-Furness https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/server/latest/publish-services/windows/feature-services-and-client-applications.htm# https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/server/latest/publish-services/windows/improve-map-service-display-performance.htm

Geez that's is expensive! Thank you for helping me out. I guess my take away is yeah you can use web adaptors and they will route requests between each server if one is busy, but if one is handling a request and fails that request is just dead in the water and not routed to the other running server. If there was a third party load balancer in place, it would route requests just like web adaptor, but in the case where a request fails it would send that over to the running server. So to really have high availability you need a third party load balcncer. I imagine this is a real issue with long running async requests, but for something like a query the user may not notice it as much. Would you agree with that?

Yes that lays it out clearly @JoeHershman! If I could ask a few more questions, are there any recommended load balancers by Esri for this kind of config? Could you share with me which one you use? Do you know of any blog or resource aside from the esri doc here that walks through the process of setting up a third party load balancer (would be great if it dealt with IIS)?

Sorry @JoeHershman, can you clarify does it go to the one still running or doesn't go to the one still running?

This one had me stumped a couple of weeks ago. As you pointed out the related record you are testing against has no match. Since it can't find a match, even though it looks like an empty feature set is returned it's more like a null and it can't perform that function on a null value. I think what I would do is instead of using Count(x) > 0 use !IsEmpty(x).

My team is preparing to install ArcGIS Monitor 2023.2 on a 2019 Windows Server. The server has been setup, but a question came up that I can't find an answer to through documentation so I was hoping someone could provide some input. @DerekLaw already provided some information that will be really helpful, but would like to receive input from others. This server had to be partitioned into two drives (C and D). The D drive has 150gb of disk space available and is capable of being expanded. The C drive only has 60gb or so space left on it and can't be expanded. Since the recommendation for the ArcGIS Monitor database is 100gb, we're thinking we will need to put it on the D drive. My questions: Is there any issue with putting monitor on the C: drive and the database on the D drive? Would it be better to put both ArcGIS Monitor and database on the D drive? I would also love if someone could point me to a blog on setting up the database portion of this! Do I get the appropriate Postgress installer from MyEsri or do I need to go out and find it myself. I haven't done much with Postgress, but according to the documentation here it looks like I only need to run a couple of SQL scripts to basically create the database, create the user, and set permissions. The next section on creating the schema is kind of confusing to me. How do the actual appropriate table schemas get generated? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Lance

Hey @JonathanQuinn sorry to be dense, but is it possible to just use the web adaptor component on each individual server, register those in the same site and achieve high availability? Or do you need a third party load balancer in front of two ArcGIS Servers that both have their own web adaptor and are registered together in one site?

Chiming in here. Having to pre-define filters isn't worthless, but almost. Our users need to explore different aspects of data so they need to be able to generate their own criteria.
