Thanks Dan. You are right. The help documentation states: Fundamentals of date fields—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop Displaying dates A coverage or shapefile stores dates in a date field with this format: yyyy-mm-dd. A geodatabase formats the date as datetime yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss AM or PM. Settings on your Windows system determine how the dates are displayed in ArcMap—M/d/yy, MM/dd/yy, yy/MM/dd, and so on. ArcMap uses the system short date format (numerical) for displaying dates. So I should use feature class in a file geodatabase instead of shapefile.

@Dan. Thanks! I can do String output from the script. But the script will be used as a custom tool to be imported into a main Model called "MainModel". The MainModel will add the output date and time to a field of Date type (called "_Time") in a Shapefile. Does the "_Time" field automatically pick up a String as Date type?

I have developed a Python script using ArcPy with one of the output variable being of Date type. In the actual Python code, the variable is a Python datetime object which has both the date and time sections. A snippet of Python script "ExtractNetCDFToRaster.py" is as below. import sys, osfrom os.path import basenameimport arcpyimport datetimefrom dateutil import tz # Convert UTC datetime to local datetimedef convertToLocalDT(string): from_zone = tz.tzutc() to_zone = tz.tzlocal() # 20/11/2017 1:00:00 PM dtUTC = datetime.datetime.strptime(string, "%d/%m/%Y %I:%M:%S %p") dtLocal = dtUTC.replace(tzinfo=from_zone).astimezone(to_zone) return dtLocal ...# get dimension values from the time dimensiondimension_values = nc_FP.getDimensionValue("time", 0)# the dimension_values is of a unicode type of data, e.g. u'20/11/2017 1:00:00 PM'strDimensionValues = dimension_values.encode('utf-8')arcpy.AddMessage("dimension_values: " + strDimensionValues)dtDimensionValues = convertToLocalDT(strDimensionValues)...# Set dtDimensionValues as output which has an alias of "outDateTime" in the tool Properties window.arcpy.SetParameter(5, dtDimensionValues) When I imported this script into a Model as a custom tool and ran the tool, the variable only output the date but not the time section. For example, if the actual datetime is "2017-11-21 00:00:00" the outDateTime only shows "21/11/2017" as below.

Many thanks to all for all your answers! I accepted Johan's answer as correct because it was the most straightforward and easiest solution to my problem. Following the question, is ""Optimized Layer Drawing" in the settings of the layer" can be enabled by REST or JavaScript in an automated way? The reason for asking is that the feature layer will be updated at least twice daily via a Python script, if it is updated, will the setting be kept or lost? If it is lost, how can it be enabled via Python scripting? Thanks!

I have published a feature class with a massive number of polygons with large vertices on ArcGIS Online. When opened and viewed in Map Viewer, it drew acceptably slowly. I noticed it was hosted published as a Feature Service. I opened the Developer tool on the web browser. Every zoom in/out and pan triggered a massive data (10MB plus) transfered from the FeatuerServer on ArcGIS Online. What was returned was a large collection of feature geometry. That's why it took ages to draw on the map. I am wondering if the hosted feature class can be published as Map Service or WMS so that the data transfered could be simply images like what is returned by a "export" capability for a MapServer. By the way this hosted feature layer is meant to be updated quite often, e.g. twice a day.

I would like to extend and customize an app built from a sample from the ESRI AppStuio for ArcGIS GitHub on the AppStudio for ArcGIS (Desktop Edition) program on my desktop computer. A few questions for your advice and suggestions: 1. What development skills should I have? Qt, Java, .Net or C++. 2. As not all the potential users in my organization have an ArcGIS Online login (and they are not going to have one), how can I make the App avaiable for them? What if I can make all the feature services and web maps used in the App public accessible (shared with public)? 3. Do I need a Standard level license to be able to upload the customized App to ArcGIS Online so that I can build it there for distribution?

We have a model built in Model Builder in 10.1. Towards migrating this model to 10.5, I came across an issue with raster pixel type and depth. I ran the "Feature to Raster" tool with a polygon feature class (with a dozen of features) and a Long field with all Null values generated a raster output with 8 Bit and Unsigned Integer in 10.1. The same tool and same input params generated a raster output with 1 Bit and Unsigned Integer in 10.5. The fact that this tool worked differently in 10.5 stopped the subsequent tools in the model from working while I was testing the migrated model. I am wondering if there was an upgrade in this tool from 10.1 to 10.5; or whether we should have set up the default raster pixel type and depth in ArcMap? It doesn't seem to be anywhere in Environment Settings or Geoprocessing Options where raster pixel type and depth can be forced.

Hi all, I have a feature layer uploaded and stored on ArcGIS.com with my organization account. There are a few ways in which it can be viewed such as "Open in ArcGIS.com map viewer" and "Open with full editing control". Then the feature layer can be displayed on a separate map viewer. When a feature is clicked on the map, it pops up a balloon showing attributes and Delete and Edit hyperlinks. Clicking Edit makes the balloon display the editing attribute mode. What I want to achieve is a web app that has the same function as this being showing, editing or deleting. Could javascript API guru advise which ESRI dijit(s) or control(s) is being used on the ArcGIS.com map viewer? Thanks Cheers, Alex

I have a feature class that has associated multiple attachments with each of the features. A feature service was created so that the user can call the service to add/remove/edit attachments. What I want to achieve is the attachment table stored in the geodatabase can automatically record the date/time whenever the attachment is added or edited as additional field(s) by the user calling the service. The attachment table only has a fixed number of fields such as ATTACHMENTID, REL_OBJECTID, CONTENT_TYPE, ATT_NAME, DATA_SIZE and DATA. Is there any solution to it? Thanks! Cheers, Alex

The graphicLayer on my ESRI map JS object contains some graphics that come from a query operation on a feature layer. I tried to attach onClick to those graphics and attachment editor for each of them. However, AttachmentEditor didn't work at all. var attachmentDivContent = "<div id='content' style='width:100%'></div>"; map.infoWindow.resize(350, 200); dojo.connect(map.graphics, "onClick", function(evt) { var locName = evt.graphic.attributes['LocationNa']; map.infoWindow.setTitle(locName); map.infoWindow.setContent("<div id='divInfoWindowCentent' style='width:100%'>HELLO graphics " + locName + attachmentDivContent + "</div>"); var attachmentEditor = new esri.dijit.editing.AttachmentEditor({}, dojo.byId("content")); attachmentEditor.startup(); attachmentEditor.showAttachments(evt.graphic, featureLayer); map.infoWindow.show(evt.screenPoint, map.getInfoWindowAnchor(evt.screenPoint)); }); The above code only showed "HELLO graphics " + {LocationName} and AttachmentEditor didn't work to work. Could anyone point out anything wrong with the code? Thanks. Cheers, Alex

Hi all, I have no problems running the AttachmentEditor dijit example with the ArcGIS Online feature layer. However, our feature I have to deal with has over 1000 point features within a small geographic area. So the map appears very much messy when displaying all those point features. It turns out even worse when the AttachmentEditor pops out upon click on point. What I want to achieve is to allow the user to do a query on the point feature layer by names so that they will be narrowed down to a subset (the query result) of them, and the user to be able to show the associated attachments with the point upon clicked. I don't want to apply Attachment Editor to the entire feature layer. I cannot find a decent example for me. Anyone could point me to the right direction? Thanks! Cheers, Alex
