The Geotrigger Service relies on the GPS within mobile devices, and you're correct that they have a hard time knowing where they are indoors. While Esri doesn't provide a solution or the infrastructure for indoor geolocation, the Geotrigger Service supports the ability to plug in your own coordinates and not use the local GPS. In order for this to work, an existing infrastructure needs to exist, such as iBeacons or an indoor geolocation system. Esri does not provide this, but if one already exists, the Geotrigger Service can leverage these points and work as intended. GIS Inc. is an Esri partner that has used indoor location in conjunction with the Geotrigger Service, but we don't know if they've chosen to productize this proof of concept. I hope that helps! The docs have more information, and you can also ask questions in our Geotrigger SDKs and API space here on GeoNet.

Dear, I am trying to access the following feature service URL: http://[IPAddress:Port]/arcgis/rest/services/[MyMapService]/FeatureServer that has been basically published(.MXD) from an Enterprise Geodatabase(containing versioned datasets) as a map service enabling by that the feature access capability. My question is as follows: I am interested in consuming this feature service by Operations Dashboards within an Operation View and I wanted to make sure that the future updates on the different feature classes composing my geodatabase will be reflected on my operation view? If the changes are getting reflected in the view on the Operations Dashboards for ArcGIS Desktop. Are they also reflected on ArcGIS Online organization account? Our main goal is to have an updated data dynamically. Tech. Specs: - ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 (SP1) - ArcGIS Online Organization account. - ArcGIS Server 10.1. - Operations Dashboards for ArcGIS 10.1

Are both machines on the same network? Well, both machines are not on the same network. The Network is an Enterprise network and as I am a novice in the iOS world, I found difficulties configuring a new network (the one common with GIS Production Server). Could you please share any documentation on how to configure a new network on the MAC? Thank you again! -- Reda

Original User: asrujit El, The assigning of the versions in the ArcMap session depends on how your database connection has been setup. If your database Connection is pointing to the Default version, then when you add data into your ArcMap session, it will automatically connect to the Default version as well. While setting up the database connections, you can set which version it will connect to in the "Geodatabase Connection Properties". Connecting to a specific geodatabase version: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//002q00000032000000 As for your second question, you cannot stop an user from trying to switch versions. Your versions have an access level of "Protected", which prevents a non-owner from editing in that version, but doesn't prevent other users from connecting and having a look at it. Protected: Any user may view the version, but only the owner or the geodatabase administrator may edit datasets in the version or the version itself. Nidhin's steps are correct if you want to delete the feature class. You also mentioned something about importing a newly-created feature class "referring to the same data content". If you want to add a new feature class to your dataset, then use copy/paste, Feature Class to Feature Class, or the Import tool to bring your new data in and then register it as versioned thereafter. But if the new data you wish to add has the same field structure and geometry type as what you are considering to delete, then consider using Nidhin's steps but instead of the final step of deleting the feature class you could insert your new records by way of the Simple Data Loader (right click feature class in ArcCatalog and pick Load) or by way of copy/paste in an ArcMap edit session or by way of the Append tool. Each method has its advantages, but my point is that you shouldn't have to delete the feature class and re-create it (along with any of its permissions) if the goal is simply to get new records into it. In the case I just described, once the new records are loaded you would then re-register it as versioned.

I am experimenting with editing JUST THE ATTRIBUTES of a feature class in SDE. I created a view in SQL Management Studio that had only the attribute fields (no shape, no objectid). Then I linked to that in MS Access using ODBC, and edited a few existing records through a form. The form is limited to edits (no additions or deletions available), and I have hidden the table from view. Hoping this might provide a better method for data entry than editing rows in ArcMap.

Hi everyone, Could someone provides me with the best practices (Procedures/Standards) to update an existing Data Model using Visio, at an Enterprise Level, acknowledging the fact that a database has already been implemented previously from the oldest model. Is there any possibility to upgrade the old geodatabase consequently after updating the data model ? The updation itself is mainly about adding new fields and domains. Please help. Thank you in advance !

The Repair and Check Geometry GP tools allow input from a file geodatabase. Copy your offending feature class(es) from the enterprise GDB back to a file GDB and then run both tools from there, or run the tools on your original file GDB feature classes. Once the repairs are made, move your data to the enterprise GDB.

No tutorial, but I think these resources should help you out: Data maintenance strategies A quick tour of versioning And although older and some of it getting outdated (e.g. ArcSDE Application Server is going on the next major release), these articles may still be of use, especially the 2004 Versioning whitepaper is still highly recommended reading to better understand versioning, even despite 10 years old... Please note that the actual mechanism of versioning basically hasn't changed a lot since then, ESRI mainly added new options relaxing constraints that were issues ten years ago: ESRI Versioning Whitepaper, 2004 Enterprise Geodatabase 101 - A review of design and key features for GIS managers and database administrators Derek Law, ESRI Versioning 101 Essential information about ArcSDE geodatabases By Derek Law, Esri Product Management

Do you have access either to ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS Online? If your need is to hide some attributes/fields, but show geometry, it can be accomplished using web-based tools. Otherwise, as noted by others, you invite complex and unsupported database behaviors and/or Desktop customization with ArcObjects.

"I am not only dealing with feature datasets and classes, but also with proper relationships, domains and subtypes, copy/paste would not be very much relevant to my case." I assume by proper relationships you mean relationship classes. The copy paste method in ArcCatalog respects relationship classes, domains, and subtypes amongst many other properties in your geodatabase and it's objects. In other words, a copy paste brings everything over that you need when picking feature datasets, feature classes, and tables. You would need to perform a mass selection using shift + click when performing the copy. I think it IS a relevant option for you.

The 10.1 (non-SP1) web adaptor application is not supported on the Windows Server 2012 platform. The system requirements are clear that support for 2012 and IIS 8 begins at 10.1 SP1. Here is the source: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/system-requirements/10.1../index.html#//01510000007s000000 That being said, to verify that the web adaptor is installed properly and responding to requests you should make the following request via your web browser after installation completes: http://servername.domain.int/arcgis/webadaptor (assumes 'arcgis' is the name of your web adaptor)

We need more information to best answer this inquiry. As per this link, I have many options if I want to install ArcGIS for Server 10.1 : http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/install-guides/arcgis-server/10.1/index.html#/Installing_ArcGIS_for_Server_on_one_machine/01nm00000005000000/ My question is : What would be the most adaptive deployment scenario in my case? That stated, if you are looking for redundancy then using an NLB for high availability is the way to go. I found out that a high availability configuration is the way to go to match the clients needs and requirements. Ok, could you provide more details about NLB in a high availability configuration? I seem to struggle to find some technical operational documentation on it... You can have passive/active configuration as per your organizational needs. What do you mean by passive/active configuration? I have 2 ArcGIS for Server servers, one is a production server and the other is standby server. Is is what you mean by active configuration? Take a look at the link below, there is a section for high availability configurations. http://wiki.gis.com/wiki/index.php/GIS_Product_Architecture I have already been here and it helped me a lot to define my architecture. I choosed three-tier configuration.

Hi all, I had the same issue so thanks for the help. The problem now is that, once I publish the layer, the data in it is not visible anymore on the map (and the attribute table it's empty). Any ideas on why that is happening and how to solve it? Thank you very much in advance
