We are currently looking for a way on how to automate service publishment (from a *.aprx file) to an ArcGIS Portal 10.7.1 with python, but this seems not to be possible if the portal is secured with web tier authentication with basic-authentication (WebAdaptor on Apache Tomcat with LDAP). We've taken a look at this example: MapImageSharingDraft—Sharing module | Documentation and tried it with our secured portal, but it fails on the "exportToSDDraft"-Function with the following error: The "federatedServerUrl" in our case is a basic-auth protected URL, thus the server cannot be reached, because arcpy seems not to correctly handle the login. sharing_draft.federatedServerUrl = "https://MyFederatedServerUrl.esri.com/server" Without *.sddraft, no *.sd file and without *.sd file no service publishment possible, neither with arcpy nor with the Python API for ArcGIS (where you need a *.sd file to publish the item to portal). Question: How to generate *.sddraft files with secured portal? As I read in the documentation MapImageSharingDraft—Sharing module | Documentation the portal information is read from the portals page in ArcGIS Pro (Portal information is obtained from the Portals page in ArcGIS Pro.). Question: Is it possible to publish *.aprx files from python without having ArcGIS Pro installed? Then I found this one here: SignInToPortal—ArcPy Functions | Documentation With this function it should be possible to sign in to a portal, neither if it's in your portals page in ArcGIS Pro or not. But again, signing in to a secured portal throws an error. It seems that only Built-In Security Logins are allowed and not Enterprise logins. Question: How to use arcpy.SignInToPortal() with secured portal? In the past we already had a similiar way to automate publishing of map services to a standalone ArcGIS Server. Therefore we only needed the MXD and the service metainformatione generated in the *.sddraft file. The *.sddraft file could be generated inside ArcMap over the GUI. You just had to cancel the service publishment dialog and a *.sddraft was stored. This is no longer possible in ArcGIS Pro. The dialog where you have to specify all the meta information for the service like capabilities (FeatureServer, WMS ...) and Pooling (dedicated or shared, and instances) is not cancelable. That means I would need to code every setting that is possible to do in the GUI, in the XML of the pregenerated *.sddraft. Is this really the way to go for Esri? Question: Is there a better way to generate a *.sddraft file? Thanks

Hi, Our portal (ArcGIS 10.7.1) and thus the federated server is secured with Web-Tier Authentication (Apache Tomcat and the Java WebAdapter) with LDAP (Basic-Auth). In my case, calling the exportToSDDRAFT function after specifying the federatedServerUrl fails with the error: Exception has occurred: ValueError Target server is not a federated server or is inaccessible. How can I hand over authentication params to the arcpy function to finally generate a *.sddraft or *.sd file? sharing_draft = m.getWebLayerSharingDraft("FEDERATED_SERVER", "MAP_IMAGE", service) sharing_draft.federatedServerUrl = "https://MyFederatedServer.esri.com/server" sharing_draft.summary = "My Summary" sharing_draft.tags = "My Tags" sharing_draft.description = "My Description" sharing_draft.credits = "My Credits" sharing_draft.useLimitations = "My Use Limitations" # Create Service Definition Draft file sharing_draft.exportToSDDraft(sddraft_output_filename)

In our case it was in fact a missmatch of the regional settings from the source portal machine to the destination portal machine. After changing all the regional settings and formats to the same settings as on the source system, I could import the old *.webgissite (webgisdr backup file) into the new portal and then upgrade the portal from 10.6.1 to 10.7.1 without getting any postgressql error. Luckily our machines are cloud based and I had for every migration step a snapshot of the disks, so in case of errors I could revert back and try again.

What I've learned so far (the hard way) when migrating portal from one version to another to different machine names: NEVER EVER do unfederate and federate the server!!!! This is really evil and you will have to fix all your portal items through the internal postgresql database. If you read the documentation carefully (what I did not) Federate an ArcGIS Server site with your portal—Portal for ArcGIS (10.8) | Documentation for ArcGIS Enterprise you will find this one here: Services that exist on the ArcGIS Server site at the time of federation are automatically added to the portal as items. These items are owned by the portal administrator who performs federation. After federation, the portal administrator can reassign ownership of these items to existing portal members as desired. Any subsequent items you publish to the federated server are automatically added as items on the portal and are owned by the user who publishes them. This is the evil part of the unfederate / federate approach.

"ArcGIS Monitor is licensed based on cores of ArcGIS Server being monitored. FYI, please see these FAQ docs," Are you kidding me??? This is just ridiculous. Licensing based on cores in the cloud age is really out of date and I agree with other opinions here, it MUST be part of the arcgis licensing for enterprise solutions. Everything else is not acceptable.

🙂 Ok, thanks then. I just looked at the link (https://community.esri.com/external-link.jspa?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.esri.com%2Fen-us%2Fabout%2Fevents%2Findex%2Fproceedi… ) you've posted above for Arnaud and there it is not listed yet.

Hi We currently face a similiar problem. After unfederating a server, federating to internal url (webadaptor url), exporting backup with wegbgisdr tool, unfederate again and refederate with original "public" url it seems that the sharing items (for groups or no groups) does no longer work properly. Just trying to set again the sharing permissions on a item does not work. Anyone a hint on how to fix this issue?

Hi I ran into this issue yesterday evening again. I have no idea why. I opened once an Esri case "Case #02409929" in September this year (Esri Germany). Afterwards I could not reproduce the error again until now. We plan to migrate our production environment in January 2020 and yesterday I did a dry run to migrate portal to new machines and to upgrade from 10.6.1 to 10.7.1. The error message at the top points me as well to the logs in "C:\arcgisportal\logs" but we did not even install to c:\arcgisportal, our directory is d:\arcgisportal\logs and in there I could not find any logs from the "upgrade" failure. Have you more information what the upgrade failure could trigger or how I could work around? Thanks

I really have problems reading this documentation. For example I miss the listing of the properties on objects like role or item. Giving direct feedback to this developer help would help improving it. For getting started with this API it would really help to give the complete overview on each object (methods, properties).

The same for Portal for ArcGIS. Pushing Portal for enterprise needs a fully working backup/restore of the content (not the configuration). I cannot tell my users to redeploy each hosted feature, this is a no go.

🙂 Yes, I know that with the REST Interface I could get the users and roles. My question was more related to the Interface iRoleStore and how to get it. I mean if we can do it by REST then there MUST be an ArcObjects Interface to use.
