Sincere apology for that! Please download 10sp3 from here http://resources.arcgis.com/content/patches-and-service-packs?fa=viewPatch&PID=17&MetaID=1807. It contains the fix. Barbara Bicking Geoprocessing Team

Does anyone know how to smooth the contours generated from topo to raster interpolation? Is it possible. Some of my contours are jagged. I tried changing the cell size to 0.003 but its did not really help. Any other suggestions? Thanks! Hi Charles, how about Smooth Line in Cartography Tools / Generalization. Barbara Bicking

I am trying to create a model where someone has to Enter the Parcel ID they are looking for Select all the adjacent parcels Automatically zoom to the extent of the selected parcels. I think this is doable within Modelbuilder but its just not working.. Can't find the zoom tool to put into modelbuilder Any help is greatly appreciated.. Thanks, Alex Hi Alex, one [sniffty] way to do it is: use the CalculateValue tool with the attached code. Set a Precondition on CalcValue to the output from SelectByLoc. Btw - in SelectByLoc: for the Relationship parameter I used the "Boundary Touches" option to get all adjacant parcels. Let me know if it works for you - it does for me. Barbara Bicking

I stumbled upon the solution when I decided to just let my model run to see what happened. Apparently, the first iteration used the value '1' and all my selections were empty because of this. After the model finished for the value '1' it started to iterate through the actual values. Worked perfectly! Hi Gabe, you can eliminate the initial run by constructing your model such that the iterator is the first process to run, thus it gets initiallized to the value you want. As I said above, now your first process runs and the iterator hasn't done anything and therefore it uses the default value 1. I asked if you want to iterate the entire model because of where you placed the iterator in the model, yet wanted the output from the iterator used in your model's first process. Barbara Bicking

I've just now gone back and retried the split -- this time with a normal split shapefile of the county boundaries. This is working. My correct syntax is: arcpy.Split_analysis("blk","cnty","CNTY","c:\census2010") I'm not sure what was happening when I tried it the other way but since it worked partially I was thinking it might work that way. Thanks, Barbara. Hi Todd, Great - you succeeded! Barbara Bicking

Will this attachment suffice? Hi Gabe, Thanks so attaching the model. Your first Select Layer by Attribute uses the output, i.e., Value from Iterate Field Values, yet the iterator has not yet run. Also, do you intend to iterate every process every time the iterator outputs another Value? Barbara Bicking

For the first time today I attempted to split a large dataset into smaller pieces using the Split_analysis tool. I am attempting to split an entire statewide shapefile into county by county pieces. Here is my code as entered in the Python window: arcpy.Split_analysis("blk","blk","CNTY","c:\census2010") The statewide shapefile is "blk" and "CNTY" is the county FIPS code attached to each census block. Running the command does indeed produce output for each selected county, but only a small number of blocks from each county make it into the output shapefile (easily less than 10% of the features). Is there some limit to this operation or is there some other explanation? Hi tcg1, by name your Input Features and your Split Features are the same - are they? According to what you write, your Split Features ought to be a feature class with the county outlines/borders. Is that what the Split Features "blk" represents? Barbara Bicking

Same issue here. I have 17 division names in a string field [Division]. I have 'Iterate Field Values' iterator with SQL Expression selected as data type. I want the model to take each unique value in [Division] and use it in the next tool 'Select Layer By Attribute' as the expression [Division]='%' I could be wrong, but Isn't this how SQL Expression in this iterator is supposed to work? I also tried an inline variable in my 'Select Layer By Attribute' expression: [Division]='%Value%' and set the Iterator data type back to string. The selection came out: [Division]='1'. When really it should be something like [Division]='Lakeshore' I get the same generic Value=1 for every different type of field in my feature class, no matter if it is string, long, short, float, double, etc. Even if the iterator is outputting the number of iterations instead of the actual value it should still show me the number of unique values (in the case of [Division], 17) instead of 1. But I thought the iterator was supposed to output the actual unique value of the field specified? Hi Gabe, without having a copy of your model, I can't tell why you get what you get. Barbara

Hi I'm going to be converting 100s of Arc ASCII grids to ESRI Grid then to contours. Overall I want to keep the same name. Is this possible in batch geoprocessing? I've used the iteration command in batch geoprocessinig (using the '%i%') before but was wondering if there was another way to keep the name exactly the same. I have some python experience but have never tried to keep the name the same for so many files. Overall the ascii file is called something like 'elevation_k1.asc' then I want convert it to ESRI grid and be called 'elevation_k1' and I want that name to be the same when I convert it to contours. Anyone have any tips, tricks, or recommendations in keeping that file name the same name? Thanks. Travis Hi Travis, which ArcGIS version are you working with? If with ArcGIS 10, use the Iterate Files operator in ModelBuilder and then use %Name% in the ASCII to Raster tool to ensure the name stays the same. Barbara Bicking Geoprocessing Team

I've been trying to avoid learning Python. While I'm sure it's more powerful and flexible, I don't think I'd have much need to use it (GIS is only about 10% of my work). So I was hoping to be able to do this within model builder. That said, it may not be possible, and I'll just have to learn Python, or do without this functionality in my model. Thanks for the thought. Any other ideas? If you haven't made any progress with this, Tim, attach your model and I'll take a look. Barbara Bicking Geoprocessing Team
