Hi Jack, I believe this a Business Analyst Web App (BAO) question so I will see if I can get someone to jump in this thread here for you. Regards, Jason R.

Hi Stone, Just in case you have not already looked at the help the below link details connecting to SQL Server with a database connections in ArcMap. https://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/latest/manage-data/gdbs-in-sql-server/connect-sqlserver.htm My experience is this is simply tabular data tables that one can see when going to Add Data and if this table is a saved map document that each time it is re-opened it should refresh the table for any changes. And with tabular data most of what I see is address data so then geocoding would be the next step. Would probably need more detail on data you are pulling over. Regards, Jason R.

Hi George, For your problem with the .csv file I would recommend opening blank ArcMap and performing that base line test geocoding the sf_stores.dbf. The reason for this again is to make sure the software is functioning as expected. As long as the above test is fine I generally always shift input table formats as a rule. Adding the .csv directly to the table of contents and then right clicking on the table and going to Export and output to a .dbf version of your file. Then try using the .dbf version as an input for Store Setup. When there are input table problems sometimes one will get an error upon adding it or when exporting it which narrows troubleshooting focus on the input table. Another time saver even though it is an extra step is using the Excel to Table gp tool (Conversion Tools) which will create a table feature class version. I have found this can iron out a lot of issues, especially with Excel files, though naturally there are outliers. Regards, Jason R.

Hi Bright, I can suggest a few troubleshooting steps that will help narrow down a cause. First a baseline test open a blank map document and use Store Setup by tabular data and geocode the sf_stores.dbf located at C:\ArcGIS\Business Analyst\US_2018\Datasets\Tutorial and for this first run do not select the option to have the tool create a new unique ID which I assume will run correctly. If the baseline test works run through Store Setup with the same tutorial sf_stores.dbf but this time use the option to create a new ID field (I generally like BA_ID so I know this field was created by Store Setup). Let me know how this second test goes and I can provide some further trouble shooting depending on success or failure. Regards, Jason R.

Brandon, I assume you got this sorted out a while back but for any others find this it is pretty straight forward finding out what county a block group is in as long as it has a 12 digit FIPS code. The attached image shows the break down of a block groups FIPS code. Regards, Jason R.

I would consider this an install or configuration issue with a missing tab in Business Analyst Preferences. One thing to remember as all ArcGIS Desktop software versions need to be identical (Desktop, Business Analyst Software, 64bit background GP, etc..). If there is not any software version discrepancy going through a clean uninstall/reinstall would be my advice based on this behavior. Regards, Jason R.

Paul, This is an older post but for the benefit from any that are perusing make sure to use the Python parser when creating custom variables with tools like Custom Data Setup or a custom report field calculation in Fusion Reports Designer. Example 2018 Population Age 0-4 and 10-14: !POP0_CY! + !POP10_CY! There is a known issue with the VB Script parser for a while now. Regards, Jason R.

Lori, First thing I would double check the data licensing in Pro unless you have both the local 2015/2020 and 2018/2023 datasets installed as well as ArcGIS Business Analyst Desktop and both licensed on that side as well. One can install ArcGIS Pro and one of the local Business Analyst dataset installs without installing ArcGIS Business Analyst Desktop but then there is one additional licensing step which is going to Licensing in Pro then Manager Your Data Licensing to see if there are 2015 and 2018 line items (the list is not organized very well compared to viewing the line items in ArcGIS Administrator I will check to see if this will be addressed) and if not one will need to add the .sdlic data license for each respectively. I was not able to reproduce any issues with the vector roads displaying at the levels you mentioned for the street map premium based-basemap layer that is the 2018 Business Analyst - Basemap.lyr or the 2015 version. That said I did see label issues (none display) but clearing out display cache resolved it. Regards, Jason R.

Steve, Glad to hear you were able to resolve this. For most of Business Analyst Desktop from 8.x to 10.4 using one of the default starting map documents was required (mainly having BDS layers in the table of contents). At 10.4.1 the product team added start up scripting that did allow one to do many Business Analyst functions like running reports and appending data in a blank map document and adding a layer. That said there are some tools that still do require having BDS layers in the table of contents. When in doubt simply add the 2018 Business Analyst - Demographic (BDS).lyr to the map. Hello Filipe, Not sure if you are working with Business Analyst Web App or ArcGIS Business Analyst Desktop but for the Desktop version census block centroids are used when using the Block Apportionment method. Hybrid is a bit different as when the polygon gets larger in size the centroids used are scaled up (blocks>block groups>tracts etc..) for some additional performance (processing speed). Below is a Help link to the Data tab in ArcGIS Business Analyst Preferences that details the three apportioning methods that can be selected (Hybrid is the default setting however some clients prefer the most accurate apportionment in using block apportionment at the cost of some performance for large/many areas). The block versus cascading section half way down the page is most informative. http://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/latest/extensions/business-analyst/data-tab.htm I helped a Business Analyst Desktop client recently where examining block centroid aided greatly figuring out what was going on. So the issue was a simple ring in Miami that was located in a heavily commercial business area but the client found that when running a 2018/2023 data report and comparing it to a 2017/2022 that there was a large jump in population that jumped out and needed an explanation. After taking a look at the block centroids that are captured by the simple ring found one right on the edge that showed higher population. A google maps/streetview and resulting search showed a brand new apartment complex that opened in late 2016 that the Esri 2018/2023 dataset was able to capture. For the Business Analyst Web App below is the Help link that details US and international spatial apportionment. Regards, Jason R.

Caleb, Not sure if you have resolved this issue already but based on your description I would test using Store Setup to create the sf_stores tutorial data located at C:\ArcGIS\Business Analyst\US_2018\Datasets\Tutorial then use the Trade Area wizard to create drive times and then see if running a summary report is still reversing the order. If this is the case with the tutorial data then I would recommend a repair and/or potentially a full clean uninstall reinstall. If the tutorial data based drive time summary reports are normal then the likely issue has to do with the ID field used on the point feature that the drive times were created on. Having a good ID field when either using an existing non-Business Analyst created point feature or creating one with Store/Customer Setup is always critical as problem can crop up down stream when using this point feature in other Business Analyst tool. As a best practice I generally always use the option in Store Setup to create a new field (BA_ID) even if I have an existing ID field that I will try to use as when there is an issue there I can easily test selecting the BA_ID field to see if this corrects the issue. Regards, Jason R.

Steve, To help narrow down the issue I would suggest testing the current workflow you are using by using the sf_custs.dbf tutorial data which is located at C:\ArcGIS\Business Analyst\US_2018\Datasets\Tutorial. If this is successful then this point the issue more towards your current input table. If this test fails then the issue is not input data specific and there area couple of things to look at. Let me know what happens and I can provide some additional trouble shooting steps moving forward. Regards, Jason R.
