Colin, The first thing to evaluate are the drive time polygon drive time differences between the BA Web App and BA Desktop. BA Desktop has two broad presets in Fast and Detailed as well as other options like calculating drive times towards and away from the facility. I have been working with both products in all their variations for many years and my general expectation would be, even without testing, that the drive time polygons will be different. If someone is working with both products and co-workers with one or the other product this is a good conversation to have. Also the BA Wep App gets the latest data vintage release first so there is a time period where BA Desktop is behind (one can run online reports as well as online drive times on BA desktop) with the local data vintage till the update is released Drive time area created by network datasets that are also updated each year so year to year comparison have to take that into question. Another thing to consider is the data apportionment differences between the two products. In Business Analyst Desktop one has three presets (hybrid, block apportionment, cascading centroid, and not even touching the variations when creating custom BDS layers) which will all produce reports with differing values. Hybrid on BA Desktop will be very close if not exactly the same as the BA Web App (with a caveat potentially on the online side when it comes to very large areas in the past but I can be corrected on that) as long as the vintages are identical. Regards, Jason R.

Rob, This does sound like an issue that has already come up so let me do some double checking internally as I recall it did have to do with some water layers in the 2015 basemap. Regards, Jason R.

Hi Ryan, As I am sure you know the Esri 2015/2020 dataset for Business Analyst Desktop/BAO the business data source is back to InfoGroup. The Esri 2013/2018 and 2014/2019 were using the Dun & Bradstreet business data. As far as NAICS misclassification I suspect that it could be generally related to some known challenges with the D&B business when it came to franchisee-type business models as the business name would be the corporate entity name. If have some good examples of NAICS misclassification with the current 2015 data release reply back with the details I would be happy to take a look and see what is going on. Regards, Jason R.

Paul, You can if you mean the 2015 Business Analyst - Basemap Layers.lyr. One can launch one of the two default Business Analyst start map documents but the BDS layers are all going to have red exclamation marks. In my testing looks like the Business and Facilities (businesses and shopping centers) do function. As far as a Business Analyst for Pro I am sure that possibility is being evaluated for the future. Ana, I believe you can add a point feature via web maps and then create rings/drive times/donuts to create a polygon layer that you could then run one of the available reports. Currently there is no point based report based on user imported point layer (this falls more into functionality of Business Analyst Desktop with Proximity Analysis/Locator Report). Regards, Jason R.

Robert, First I would suggest reviewing Esri's methodology/modeling techniques (http://downloads.esri.com/esri_content_doc/dbl/us/J10268_Methodology_Statement_2015-2020_Esri_US_Demographic_Updates.pdf) As far as margins of error, or MOEs, are published in the ACS because that program is a survey. Esri does not conduct surveys to produce updated estimates of the US population. Those types of accuracy measures are the domain of sample surveys. Please reference the 2010 study (http://www.esri.com/~/media/files/pdfs/library/brochures/pdfs/vendor-accuracy-study.pdf) to learn more about Esri's accuracy with respect to competing private data vendors. Hi Robert, Once you have your tract based polygon layer using Append Data would be the most appropriate to summarize Business Analyst dataset (BDS) layers. If you wanted to summarize tracts specifically to a polygon layer there are a couple of ways to go about it like creating a custom tract BDS layer with Custom Data Setup or temporarily modifying the hybrid apportionment method on the Data tab in Business Analyst preferences. James, Business Analyst desktop has a Territory Design component (What is Territory Design?—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop ). Or are you just looking for a product that you can bring in your business map spatial data? Regards, Jason R.

Hi Kris, All you need to do is after logging into Business Analyst Online is click on the country drop down menu at the upper right of the webpage and select UK. There are only two reports available currently which are the Site Map and United Kingdom Summary report. Cheers, Jason R.

Jacob, Having a county shapefile with that PUMS data and uploading it into ArcGIS Online/BAO/ArcGIS Desktop would allow one to create a color-coded/heat map. If you are looking for actual business point information instead of summarized then there are other options. Regards, Jason R.

The new app looks great I just wish one could actually exit/close out of it. For some reason the back button does not exit the application (or do anything) so one has to end task it to shut it down. One would hope that would have been caught before getting released to the google play store. Regards, Jason R.

Perry, Probably the best case scenario is if Business Analyst Online could except kmz/kml files like it does Esri shapefiles as study areas and currently it does not have the ability. I did experiment on the AGOL side if I could get a kmz/kml into a feature service I could then export to a shapefile to import into BAO but I did not have any success on that front. I am of the opinion that it would be a pretty good enhancement request to enable one to import kmz/kml files directly into Business Analyst Online. One place to request that would be at Esri Arcgis Ideas | Ideas Submission Portal . Regards, Jason R.

Allen, The issue could be the role they have been assigned to as in the organization. I know the 'Publisher' role which is one of the defaults should be fine. If it is a custom role let me know what permissions it has and I can look into it. Regards, Jason R.

Jonathan, Community Analyst, as well as Business Analyst, drive times were recently updated to slightly more detailed drive time polygon which are identical to the drive times created on ArcGIS Online. Part of the reason is to have consistency across multiple applications/services to have identical drive time methodology as it gets messy having different drive time methodologies. I know there have been some enhancement request for Community Analyst/Business Analyst to have a general/fast drive times and a detailed drive time option like the big brother product Business Analyst Desktop has. Would be a nice setting option that could be located in preferences or a check boxes when creating them. Regards, Jason R.
