Are there any clever tools or tricks that can be used to automatically [nee quickly] convert (a large amount of) complex polygons into simple polygons i.e. splitting geometry so holes are still represented but are not drawn as holes...... see attached.

That's a factor of a million out, possibly. 1 mile = 1600m. Are you importing a cad file - is it in mm instead of metres? (or visa versa) If you're then measuring in km and not miles you would get 0.0016........, if my mental arithmaguestimation is correct.

You can download postcode sector data from the ONS website: Office for National Statistics Just search for poscode - there are two variations released each month - you'll have to search for the documentation if you want to read up about the differences but from your question it sounds like either will do; just go for the latest version.

"So after the first iteration of the Complete Street Rule ...." I'm a bit confused. How come this update is released on Google drive and not the esri pages like before? Is this first iteration link now out of date? My company wont allow access to Google Drive.

I'm not sure....... but I don't see why you are using extrude() - I'd try removing it, and possibly the center(xz) line as well.

In your version you seem to align the scope to longest and then immediately change it in the next line, so I'd try moving the align to longest so it comes after the other alignScope.... like this: @StartRule trase --> split(x){~avstand: alignScopeToGeometry(yUp,0) lagHoyspent}* lagHoyspent --> alignScopeToGeometry(yUp, any, longest) .....

I've never built up trust in the search, never seemed very good with partial words or "misspellings" (colour, neighbour, metre etc.) but having seen this thread I thought I'd take a look at the new pages... Currently, whatever I search, it just keeps saying "please try again later"............ later?!? does this mean there's a technical problem with the help?......... google can still find the page I want. (Having said that google seems to be becoming less reliable - keeps offering me german or spanish versions)

Hi Cody, I can't see how direct message unless you 'follow' me and I don't think I have enough to add to warrant separate discussion so I'd just thought I'd say here that for me overviews are just a tool to help me visualise my hundreds or thousands of raster tiles, so I don't want or need to see them in the attribute table or the footprint layer. The footprints in particular are an irritant because they confuse the matter when trying to select the footprints of my source tiles - I can see no way to hide the footprints except by moving the overviews to another mosaic.

Have you tried creating overviews? I find this to be a much more reliable and efficient way of viewing my rasters at a large range of scales. Once generated, I copy the overviews to a different mosaic and delete them from the original one to avoid the annoyance of having them fill up the attribute table with junk and making a mess of the footprint layer.

OK I tried this dissolve a few more times (I did not delete previous attempts but am outputting to a different file each time) - if I run only the script: successful after approx 9 mins Used physical memory around 21% throughout (max approx 25%) Running on local disk if I also have ArcMap open: bailed out after approx 9 minutes - coverage of output is approx 75% of what it should be if I just have ArcMap open without using it; however if I do things like loading imagery off the network at the same time as running the script the output can be more like 50% of what it should be - no errrors are reported. Used physical memory around 21% throughout (max approx 25%) Running on local disk My computer is Intel Xeon E5-2620 2GHz (2 processors) 16 GB RAM 24 cores This behaviour is rather disturbing to me - it undermines the use of python as a reliable method of geoprocessing - how do I catch these errors? I thought that one of the advantages of using scripts was that I could do other things while they run in the background.

I'm attempting to Dissolve a feature class, which contains almost 2 million features, using a stand alone script. However the script gives up before the dissolve is complete and the output feature class covers approx 75% of the input features - there is no error. When I perform the same dissolve in ArcMap, using either the tool GUI or the python window, it completes fully. So what gives? Is there something I can do to stop the stand alone script finishing early? - it is intended to become a longer script but at the moment it's set up to just perform the dissolve using all default settings. (Arc 10.2)

This "extremely convoluted method" is not a bad way to try if you're new to Arc. Basically you need to create a layer that is the inverse of your lakes polygons. You can do this by drawing a polygon layer that covers entirely your raster - then use the Union tool to union this polygon with your lakes polygon - then delete the lakes from the resulting layer. Next use the tool search and search for "clip raster" and choose Clip (Data Management). Use the result of the Union tool as the Output Extent and ensure the Maintain Clipping Extent option is ticked.

I'd start by considering from what angle you models will be viewed i.e. if it will always be from above you can remove the balcony ceilings. You seem to have modelled the fence at the front of the balcony as a complete rectangular prism (6 faces) - I would suggest this could possibly be reduced to 1 face. Use Model Inspector and the Hierarchy view to find other faces that can be removed. In your model each balcony has a separate back and side walls i.e. 1 balcony-backwall and 2 balcony-sidewalls per floor - could you change the rules so there is 1 balcony-backwall and and 2 balcony-sidewalls for the whole building. Alternatively could you represent the balconies on a flat wall with a texture?
