Hello Rachel. Answering your questions, ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS Online are two different elements, the first one it´s a Software and the other one it's a Platform. Starting with ArcGIS Online will help you to create, manage and share content but you are working with results and authored content. ArcGIS for Desktop is the solution to author this content, manage data, perform analysis and create high qualyty maps. As you can see both are complementary elements. Online won't help you directly to make you proficent in Desktop but it would help you to understand the role of Desktop as a tool to author content as a professional. For more information look each product description in ESRI Site. ArcGIS for Desktop ArcGIS Online - Create Web Maps, Applications, and Data in the Cloud Hope it can help you. Greetings

Hi Everyone. I'm currently analyzing an existing data model for a project and i saw something strange in a feature class. Looking the FC fields i found a Raster field, i found out in a blog post that you can use raster fields to attach imagery to a feature class object. In this case the GDB owner uses the Raster Field to store a photo of the point. I'd like to suggest him that he should change the Raster Column with Attachments (pointing that is the most compatible solution if he wants to use AGOL) but before that i'd like to share the experience to receive some feedback and to make the question: Is the raster field a valid solution to store image attachments in a Web GIS platform? Greetings

Hi! Answering the questions, our organization had a big challenge to change from Flex to JS. Change the Web API to create map viewers for our clients wasn't a problem. The big challenge was to (re)create our custom widgets in JS. We develop widgets that integrate the app with other platforms like SharePoint, we're still at it and it would be interesting to use the web app builder to load custom widgets into the apps. We are testing the Web App Builder in Javascript and giving feedback into the beta program. Greetings

So, lucky me, I have geodatabase connections from 10.0; There is not an Add spatial database connection or sde connection? here's the connection property view: and here is the same dialog when trying to add connection, notice the application server is missing: I can copy the connection file, but when trying to explain to a user how to make connections... is there a setting that can correct this... Hi Harley. I have the same problem, i have my old connections from 10.0 and i think that you can add the application server option if you install Arcsde 10.1 application server on your pc. Good luck

Hi. I have a simple question. In ESRI Documentation about cartographic representation it says What's the name of this famous system table in ArcSDE in Oracle? So i can monitor where it stores the data. Greetings About this question i researched about the topic and i'll answer myself to share with everyone The cartographic representation it's stored as XML data inside SDE system tables, specifically in an SDE_XML_DOC table defined as the DEFINITION Table. The GDB_ITEMS table stores the registry of every item in SDE including cartographic representations. This table has 3 columns "Definition", "Documentation", "Iteminfo" which relates the GDB_ITEMS with SDE_XML_DOC Tables (using SDE_XML_COLUMNS table as intermediate). So, if you create a new representation, the DBMS insert the registry on GDB_ITEMS table and a new definition in SDE_XML_DOC is created. You can trace the representation data using the SDE_XML_ID in SDE_XML_DOC table related with DEFINITION column in GDB_ITEMS table and there you go, you have found your representation data.
