Hi James. To answer your question you have to consider two aspects with your IT Staff. First at all you have to work with the GIS Server (ArcGIS for Server). If you want to load your on-premise data from outside the company network you have to publish your GIS server to Internet with it's corresponding security access. You can do this using ArcGIS for Server Web Adaptor or set up a Reverse Proxy in the DMZ Same thing you have to do with your web map application, you have to publish the IIS or Apache Host Server to internet and make sure that the web map services configured in the app points to the internet GIS server For more information check this article from Esri documentation Firewalls and ArcGIS Server—Documentation (10.3 and 10.3.1) | ArcGIS for Server Greetings and good luck Leandro Zamudio Esri System Designer Associate 10.2

Hi. I'd like to share a little project that I'm starting for Visual Studio Web Developers. It's called ArcGIS API for Javascript Snippets and Templates extension for Visual Studio. For now it's in beta stage but it will contain a set of snippets that you can quickly add to your Visual Studio projects through Code Snippet Manager. If you are familiar with Visual Studio, try it for free install it, test it to create web applications and give me feedback so i can update it with more snippets and even complete templates. Thanks for your answer Jake. About that i have another question... I'm starting a new business and i'd like to offer a Geodatabase PaaS to Small and Mid Business who can't afford an ArcGIS for Server and/or need a multiuser Geodatabase. I'd like to know if there's some restrictions (License, Legal) to deploy a service like this. Thanks

Hi. I have a question about how many licenses of ArcGIS for Server Enterprise i need to deploy a GIS platform based on 3 scenarios. I'm planning to use Server Standard Scenario A : One 4-core server to deploy ArcGIS for Server w/web adaptor One SQL Server Cluster (Three Servers with AlwaysOn) to enable one Enterprise Geodatabase. Do i need another license to enable the Enterprise Geodatabase? Scenario B: One 4-core server to deploy ArcGIS for Server One 4-core server to deploy Web Adaptor to be configured with the AGS Server One SQL Server Cluster (Three Servers with AlwaysOn) to enable two Enterprise Geodatabases I Know that i don't need another license for web adaptor but do i need another license to enable the second EGDB? Scenario C: Two 4-core server to deploy ArcGIS for Server as a cluster One 4-core server to deploy Web Adaptor to be configured with the AGS Servers One SQL Server Cluster (Three Servers with AlwaysOn) to enable two Enterprise Geodatabases Greetings and thank you

I'd suggest you to encapsulate it into a function. I developed a tiny function called SearchCounter derivated from a Validator in a previous blog post. def SearchCounter(cursor):
counts = 0
for counter in cursor:
counts += 1;
cursor.reset()
return counts
#Previous Code
#...
RecordCount = SearchCounter(arcpy.da.SearchCursor(Table,Fields,Query))
#...
#End Code Greetings

Congratulations for the initative. Using GIS to recreate archaelogical places it could be a very interesting application, specially if you share it in ArcGIS Online with storymaps. Greetings

Hi Ian. I have a code snippet that you can use, To use it Replace the <outputGDB> and <InputGDB1><InputGDB2><InputGDBN> values. WARNING: It's tested with GDB with the exactly same schema in all GDBs.
import arcpy
from arcpy import env
##Destination GDB
GDBD="<output GDB>"
##List of Origin GDB
GDBS=["<inputGDB1>","<inputGDB2>","...","<inputGDBN>"]
##Set Environment
arcpy.env.workspace=GDBD
##Get List of FDS
FDS=arcpy.ListDatasets()
##Get List of Root Feature Classes
ROOTFCS=arcpy.ListFeatureClasses()
##Append elements in Root Feature Classes
for fcr in ROOTFCS:
appendinput=[]
for FCI in GDBS:
appendinput.append(FCI+"/"+fcr)
##print appendinput
arcpy.Append_management(appendinput,GDBD+'/'+fcr,"TEST")
##Append elements of Feature Classes inside Feature Datasets
for FD in FDS:
for FC in arcpy.ListFeatureClasses("*","",FD):
appendinput2=[]
for FCI2 in GDBS:
appendinput2.append(FCI2+"/"+FC)
##print appendinput2
arcpy.Append_management(appendinput2,GDBD+'/'+FC,"TEST")

Well, you have two ways to do it. 1. You could use a free 60-day Trial of ArcGIS Desktop. ArcGIS for Desktop | Free Trial 2. You could look at ArcGIS for Home Use. It's a US$100 annual license to use ArcGIS for Desktop Software. And the main benefit it's that with the license you get 100 credits in ArcGIS Online. Hello Rachel. Answering your questions, ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS Online are two different elements, the first one it´s a Software and the other one it's a Platform. Starting with ArcGIS Online will help you to create, manage and share content but you are working with results and authored content. ArcGIS for Desktop is the solution to author this content, manage data, perform analysis and create high qualyty maps. As you can see both are complementary elements. Online won't help you directly to make you proficent in Desktop but it would help you to understand the role of Desktop as a tool to author content as a professional. For more information look each product description in ESRI Site. ArcGIS for Desktop ArcGIS Online - Create Web Maps, Applications, and Data in the Cloud Hope it can help you. Greetings

Hi Everyone. I'm currently analyzing an existing data model for a project and i saw something strange in a feature class. Looking the FC fields i found a Raster field, i found out in a blog post that you can use raster fields to attach imagery to a feature class object. In this case the GDB owner uses the Raster Field to store a photo of the point. I'd like to suggest him that he should change the Raster Column with Attachments (pointing that is the most compatible solution if he wants to use AGOL) but before that i'd like to share the experience to receive some feedback and to make the question: Is the raster field a valid solution to store image attachments in a Web GIS platform? Greetings
