Hi Josh, Improving the printing experience is something we hope to get to sometime in the next year. Sorry I can't give you a precise timeline for this, but it is definitely on our radar. Robert provides the current workaround/workflow above. Tom

Hi Amanda, I work on the Layout Team with David. Unfortunately, you will not be able to customize the New Layout drop-down gallery at version 2.2. We're hoping that we can not only enhance this gallery, but also improve the template story in the near future, probably sometime in 2019. Tom

Hi Adam, I'm currently unaware of any issue regarding the drawing of an extra feature/line when exporting a Strip Map map series. Off hand there is nothing I can think of that might be causing this issue. Might be something specific with your project or data. Are you able to contact Technical Support. They are much better suited to help troubleshoot, reproduce and log bugs of this nature. They can be contacted at https://support.esri.com/en/contact-tech-support. Sorry I could not be of more help. Hi Daniel, Thanks for the feedback. The key to understanding how to author a layout in ArcGIS Pro is understanding what a map frame is. A map frame is a container on the page layout that points to a map in your project. The map contains contains the layers, along with other properties that the map frame inherits. You can have X number of map frame on Y number of layouts all pointing to the same map. Each map frame can have different extents (this includes time and range extents). You can X number of map frames on the same layout all pointing to the same map. However, all map frames are dependent on the map on what layers are available in the map. If you want different layers for different map frames you will need separate maps. See Add and modify map frames—Layouts | ArcGIS Desktop for more information. Extent indicators - Extent indicators—Layouts | ArcGIS Desktop - can be applied to any map frame in the layout providing that there is another map frame in which to reference. It does not matter if both map frames point to the same map, or to different maps. There is more detailed information regarding the steps to create a reference (overview) map in the section "Add an overview map and extent rectangle" within the online tutorial - Make a layout—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop. As far as the poor rendering of the legend text could you provide an example screenshot? Hope this help, Tom

Hi Catherine, It sounds like you have map frames (main map & overview) pointing to the same map. You will need to create a separate map if you want to add different layers to it. This is similar to adding a new data frame in ArcMap. Hope this helps, Tom

Hi Shauna-Rae, If you are pressed for time and the map you are authoring is not a map series or something that you will be updating later you could convert the legend to graphic and then remove the unwanted items manually. As far as the issue you are seeing, there is no known issue that I'm aware of that would explain this behavior. What is the data source for the layer in question? If it is an enterprise geodatabase do you see the same problem if you copy the feature class into a file geodatabase and point your layer to the file geodatabase. If your data source is a file geodatabase, or you see the same issue with a layer pointing to a file geodatabase would you be able to share a project package with data? Thanks, Tom

You can drag and drop a map from the Catalog Pane onto a layout view. You should also be able to drag and drop a feature classes and layer files into an activated map frame. I'm not exactly sure when this functionality was available, but I tested on 2.2.1. Another thing to keep in mind about adding layers into a legend - the layer must be from the same map/map frame that the legend points to. You will not be able to add a layer from map "A" to a legend that references map "B".

Hi Alison, If the "New layer" option is checked off you can add new layers to the legend by either dragging and dropping the new layer from the map portion of the Contents Pane into the legend portion of the Contents Pane or onto the legend element on the layout view itself. Tom

Hi Alison, The only scenarios where layers should disappear from the legend are: Removing the layer from the map Checking the Legend item "off" in the Contents Pane. The layer is not visible because it is turned off in the map, or it is not visible because a visibility range has been set on the layer and the current scale on the map frame (that the legend points to) is out of this range AND the legend property "Layer visibility" is checked on (Format Legend > Options tab - Synchronize with map group). The legend item (layer) has "Only show features visible in the map extent" (Format Legend Item - Feature Display Options group) is checked and the map extent is such that no features of the layer are visible. This is set for individual legend items, which requires a layer already present in the map, so I'm not sure how you are able to set this and THEN add the layer. Perhaps I'm missing something? I'm not aware of any outstanding issue where legend items unexpectedly disappear from the legend. Unfortunately, if you are experiencing a bug we would need more information to investigate further. You mentioned that you are doing some copying and pasting. If you are copying and pasting layer elements (such as map frames and legends) make sure that the pasted element is referring to the correct map ( in the case of a pasted map frame) or map frame (in the case of a pasted legend). You can find this info in the Options tab of the properties pane (Format Map Frame & Format Legend). Hope this helps. Tom

Kevin, Unfortunately, we're having difficulty reproducing this issue. The dynamic text elements are behaving as expected. Currently, we are at a loss to why you are experiencing this inconsistent, bad state of the text elements. Are you seeing this problem with any other projects or data? Are you able to reproduce the issue using the package you sent us? We do have a possible workaround. Instead of creating dynamic text from the index layer of the map series, try using "Table dynamic text". See Add dynamic text—Layouts | ArcGIS Desktop (about a quarter of the way down the topic) for more information on table dynamic text. In your scenario you would click the "Value" dynamic text element under the "Table Attribute" group. This will open the Insert Table Attribute dialog. There, point the the layer and field you want to pull data from and set the Query to "Map series rows". Though we cannot reproduce this issue, we should still treat this issue as a bug. Are you able to report the issue to technical support? Tom

Hi Josh, Support for the display of reference grids is something we are currently working on for the 2.3 release. The ability to create indexed results (ex: Phila. - D1, D2) is something we hope to get to in a future release. Tom
