Hi, I work in a large local government authority where we have over 200 users of ArcGIS Desktop. The majority of our users access file geodatabases stored on a single file server. This file server stores over 500 GIS datasets so it has quite a deep folder structure to aid with organisation and management. Users access the data on this file server via a DFS path. We still have users on Windows 7 and very old versions of ArcGIS Desktop but are standardising on Windows 10 with ArcGIS Desktop 10.5. I don’t think our users would ever have described their experience of ArcGIS Desktop on our environment as being quick, but last December they reported that performance dropped quite a bit. As I provide more of a support role to the users rather than use the software every day, it means that I don’t know how poorly it was running before December. We have been investigating since and have been unable to identify a reason for the slowdown, hence this post to see if anyone might be able to help shed some light on where we should investigate. The GIS team is part of the IT service, so we get a view of any changes which may cause an impact to our environment. We are not aware of anything which would have caused the sudden reduced speed. Since we started investigating we have worked with colleagues from networks, servers and desktop software but they have not found any obvious issues. I have been attempting to use Process Monitor to try to identify what is going on behind the scenes when using Desktop. I won’t pretend to understand what I’m doing but it does look as though I can see the “chattiness” that ESRI has mentioned before i.e. many, many small requests to the file geodatabases. I wonder whether something has impacted the speed at which the software accesses these files - a small delay on each of these requests might not be obvious when looking at process monitor, but could add up to a significant slowdown. I have created a map document which is pointing at 12 feature classes stored on the server I mentioned above. The feature classes have been added to the map document without any further changes such as symbology, definition queries, labelling etc. With ArcMap already open it can take over 30 seconds to open this document - which doesn't sound a lot, but feels a lot longer than it should do. Has anyone else experienced similar issues since mid-December? Alternatively, can anyone suggest anything specific we can investigate to help identify the underlying issue? Thanks, Sarah

Hi, I've noticed this morning that v4.13 of the JavaScript API has been released. The thing I've been waiting for before I can migrate all my apps is a colorpicker and I see that this page Functionality matrix | ArcGIS API for JavaScript 4.13 has been updated with this: ColorPicker Not planned Instead, this will be available in the Esri/calcite-components project. I've had a quick Google rummage and I can't find much out about the calcite components project. Apologies for sounding like a numpty, but can someone explain to me what it is and how I use it? And if someone can tell me an expected date for the colorpicker, that would be brilliant. Many thanks, Sarah Noakes Cornwall Council.

We're still using v3. I've just been looking at v4 and it is considerably better. We've been holding off migrating until all the drawing tools are available, but maybe it's time to start shifting.

We have had a similar issue recently. Some of the data we were trying to publish is in an Oracle ArcSDE database. The user account accessing this data has some strange permissions set up. Creating a new user account with minimal privileges set up resolved the issue.

Hi Rupert Essinger, Do you know when this enhancement will be implemented? I need to use a swipe map for a project, but as it stands it's not usable which is causing me serious issues. I really don't want to reinvent the wheel. Cheers, Sarah.

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a story map issue or a JavaScript API 3.19 issue, so apologies for cross-posting. I've downloaded the swipe story map to host on our servers because I need to modify it slightly. I have the hosted code on my test servers and it's working, but I'm seeing these errors in the Chrome console: Uncaught TypeError: f.contains is not a function at Object.isDescendant (init.js:97) at HTMLDivElement.<anonymous> (init.js:184) init.js is https://js.arcgis.com/3.19/init.js hence why I think this may be an issue with the latest release of the api rather than a specific issue with the story map. The errors appear when I move the mouse over the righthand side of the swipe map. Can anyone tell me what's happening? Thanks, Sarah Noakes Cornwall Council

Is there any way to make the side panel of a swipe story map visible on a mobile device?

Hi Owen, This is the story map: https://arcg.is/2fMDeZ3 This is what the web map for the "Multi-point sites" tab looks like in ArcGIS Online when I create it: It consists of one layer from my servers (schools) - the URL I used is: https://map.cornwall.gov.uk/arcgis/rest/services/transportation/MapServer/17 as well as three layers that are hosted as feature layers in AGOL. But the schools don't display in the story map. Also, when I share the web map: https://arcg.is/2gExfpx, the schools disappear. Any ideas? Cheers, Sarah.
