Hi Maxime, When you edit feature attributes, the feature-linked annotation will update, but the results may not be the same as you are basically labeling a single feature in isolation; the label engine has no knowledge of the other features. Having said that, Maplex should try and place labels stacked rather than in one long line. If you could post a screenshot of your problem, or even better, submit a support request to your local distributor or to ESRI Support Services, an analyst such as myself will be happy to investigate the issue with you. http://support.esri.com/en/ Thanks,

Hi Maxime, The input polygons are only used to set the bounds for each tile. You can use the Map Server Cache Tiling Scheme to Polygons tool to create them: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/#/Map_Server_Cache_Tiling_Scheme_To_Polygons/007000000006000000/ Then you can use model builder or python to set the output of this tool as the polygon input for the Tiled Labels to Annotation tool. Hope this helps.

Hi Josh, Label priorities are used when deciding which of two conflicting labels to delete - the label with lower priority will be deleted. Unfortunately, there are many other reasons for a label not to be placed. It may be too large for the feature, there could be conflict with other features, etc. You could also try Never Remove on the 'Priority 1' label class, although you may get some overlapping labels. They should all be placed, though.

Hi Tim, Unfortunately this is a recurring problem which we have patched a number of times, but have been unable to completely resolve. A fairly substantial rewrite is required to fix it and hopefully we will be in a position to do this soon. In the meantime, have you tried increasing the leader tolerance, or turning the leader off completely? Do all your labels look like this, or do some labels in the class have a larger offset from the point?

Hi Jan, I have seen this issue before, but only for curved text. You say these are point labels - do you have graticule alignment turned on? If you change the placement to straight text, the callout boxes should line up.

Hi Christi, You can still use the annotation in other maps, as long as you view it at the correct scale. If you create annotation for each scale you want to view the map at, then set a scale range on each layer, you will always see the most appropriate set of anno. I'm not sure what you mean by longer rendering: annotation will draw many times quicker than dynamic labels. The Tiled Labels to Annotation GP tool is useful for creating anno at multiple scales: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//007000000007000000

Hi Gregory, If you have an error like this, there is not a lot we can do about it on the forum. You need to contact support with a sample of your data, so we can reproduce the problem and get to work on a fix. If you could narrow down the problem to a specific feature layer, class, or even one bad feature, that would also be useful. Thanks,

Key numbering is new at 10.1 and we are still ironing out a few issues. We have seen and fixed an issue where key number lists were overlapping labels, so hopefully your problem will be resolved in 10.1 final. If not, you can submit a support request to your local distributor or to ESRI Support Services and we'll investigate the issue for you. http://support.esri.com/en/

Hi Marco, You could try the Tiled Labels To Anno tool or export using Data Driven Pages - either way a new labelling run takes place for each extent so you should see every feature labelled when you zoom in.

Hi Nina, I'm still not quite sure I understand the problem. You can turn off labelling for the layer underneath, but then you will get no labels for the whole layer. If the upper layer only overlaps some of the lower polygons and you do want some labels on the lower layers, you could try using label weights. If you give the upper layer a weight of 1000, labels from all other layers will avoid it. This may cause problems if you have other layers in the map that you don't mind labelling over the upper polygon layer. As an alternative, you could use a GP tool to cut out the lower layer where they intersect and throw away the overlapping polygon sections.

Hi Nina, I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Is it more than just turning off labelling for those layers?

Hi Eric, I think what is happening here is that when you change the extent, the peninsula reaches the bottom border and cuts the hydro polygon into two - see simplified example below. In the image on the left, there is some space below the peninsula, so Maplex only sees one blue polygon and labels the whole thing. In the image on the right, the peninsula cuts the polygon into two. Have you got Label Largest Only checked on? If you uncheck it, then both polygons should be labelled.

Hi David, You probably know as much as I do at this stage! All I can tell you is that we are at the final stages of pre-release, so it won't be long. Sorry I can't be any more precise.

You can also set symbol rotation from the Symbology tab of the layer properties. Choose <expression> from the pulldown menu, click the calculator button, and enter a fixed value in the Expression text box. Or you can choose an attribute, or even a random angle to make things more interesting!
