Howdy, I'm stuck on an ArcGIS Online problem. Every time I save my map, an "Update Sharing" dialog box presents itself. A hosted feature layer, "BFMP_Points_of_Interest," is included in the list. I don't understand why the map always repeats this message. In what I believe is a related issued, on Android devices only, the user is asked for credentials for that layer when attempting to use the map, and if the user tries to add a feature, the layer is not listed. I have two other hosted feature layers that appear to be configured in exactly the same way, and they load just fine. Ideas?

Joshua, Thanks very much for this. The ArcCatalog Options solution would be perfect if only most of my shapefiles had the appropriate metadata. They don't. I'm a complete newbie as far as Python scripting goes, but I will give your script a shot and see what I come up with.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dan. It isn't obvious to me how the tool gets me what I want, but then I haven't yet explored it much. I do see that it consistently uses only "geodatabase" terminology, so I think it may not work at all with shapefiles.

I would like to be able to quickly scan a list of shapefiles and identify the coordinate system used by each file. In my mind's eye, this would look something like the Windows Explorer "details" view, showing in columnar format the properties of all the shapefiles in a given folder, including the coordinate system. I've hunted around but haven't found anything. Any help? Thanks.

I am experiencing the same problem with ArcCatalog crashing every time I click on the "preview" or "description" tab in the right pane. I am running 10.2.2.3552, Windows 7 Pro, with .NET 4.5.2 installed. Has anyone come up with a fix for this problem? Renaming normal.gxt did not work for me.

Thanks to Dan and Steven for your suggestions. I noodled around and found an excellent tool from Jenness Enterprises called Tools for Graphics and Shapes (Jenness Enterprises - ArcGIS Tools ). Simple to use, and did exactly what I needed with no fuss or bother.

I have a shapefile with overlapping "polygons" that are actually polylines. How can I convert the polylines to polygons without having ArcGIS converting the areas of overlap into new polygons? For example, if I have two overlapping polyline figures, I want to end up with two overlapping polygons, not three (where the third polygon is actually an area of overlap between the two polyline figures). Thank you, Rick

Tim, Thanks for your suggestion -- worked exactly as you described. And it's a good enough solution, although it doesn't give me quite what I want, because, in the original legend, I get, for example, the species indicator ("CBL"), with a yellow circle with the year ("2009") next to it. After ungrouping, I'd ideally like to have just "CBL" plus the yellow circle, but I don't see a way that I can edit the "2009" out of the legend. Rick

I have a map with a Site feature class with two key attributes: species and year. I have successfully displayed sites using Symbology > Multiple Attributes > Quantity by Category. I used species for the first of the three value fields. I used year for the Symbol Size. This gives me a different color for each species, and a different size for each year. Unfortunately, on the legend, I get a separate symbol for each combination of species and year. With about 10 species and 5 years, this means I get 50 symbols on the legend. All I want is one symbol showing the color for each species, and one scale that shows year by size. I think this has got to be a common issue. Any suggestions on how to clean up my 50-item legend? Thanks! Image shows what I don't want.
