It really is completely up to you. Try it both ways and see which one you feel shows the data better. It is hard to visualize what you mean, because at first I would assume that either way of showing the data would inevitably produce the same end result. Larger percentage of the population would be the same as higher density, and lower percentage would be lower density. Unless you have something more specific in mind, I'd say do whatever makes the most sense with your data.

How is your sampling data being stored wangjiayu? Is it stored in a table that is joined to a geographic layer in GIS?

I am not sure if this will solve your problem or not, but did you publicly share your data from the old maps and use key words to make it easier to find?

Mario, It sounds like you are having the same problem as the original poster. Read the original post's solution and check your coordinate system against the format of you xy data. What coordinate system are you using? Is your xy in decimal degrees, degrees min sec?

chlang's solution is a good one. When I read your post, I thought you were asking for how to remove the house symbol all together and not the hospitals and airports. If you still want the house symbols to show, then follow chlang's instructions. There are also help guides to walk you through any of the above suggestions.

jdavid05, I recommend exactly what rborchert suggested. If you are only working with 1 layer you can do one of two things. You can either select by attribute all the features that are a hospital and export them to a new layer, then do the same thing with the airports, creating two new layers, which will allow you to turn off the original layer without turning off your hospitals or airports. Or, if you have an attribute in your table that tells you what the location is, "hospital, airport, other", then you can use the category symbology and add only the hospital and airport attributes, then uncheck the all other features option to display just those the data you want on your map.

Are you sure it isn't there and just minimized or difficult to see because of how your other toolbars are arranged? Try turning off all your other toolbars and then just turning on the Editor toolbar. Customize > Toolbars; and then uncheck all of the toolbars; and check to turn on the Editor toolbar and see if it appears. If it doesn't appear, check with your lab administrator and see if there is a permissions issue or something.

Are you using particularly large raster data when it is slow to export? I have noticed that when I am using a large image as the basemap, the export process is considerably slower.

(I guess my search for this topic wasn't thorough enough, because I just posted a similar question - oops). At any rate, we are having the same issue with a Nokia Lumia 822. The OS is Windows Phone 8 and, in theory, should work. Isn't that the point of using a windows OS? I'm not sure if the issue is from an incompatibility with the OS, a problem with the ArcGIS app, or some kind of permissions problem, but it seems unlikely that it would be a permissions issue since we don't have this problem when accessing content from an iPad or Android device.

We recently decided to start testing out a Windows Phone 8 device with our work flow systems. Using esri's ArgGIS app for Windows, we have no problem accessing our ArcGIS online account, however we cannot see any of the layers that are pointing to our server (not hosted at ArcGIS online). We are connected to our network through a secure internet connection that should allow us to see these layers (the exact same connection settings allow us to see our internal data when being accessed from the iPad app or Android app, for example). Does anyone have experience with this? Have pointers? I cannot find any information relevant to this issue, so I am hoping another esri user has found a work-around or could tell me what we are doing wrong.

bs804 Is your problem still resolved? How did you fix the internet security filter issue? I have been having this same problem for a few weeks. Older map docs with ESRI basemaps work fine, but I cannot add them to new documents. Could you explain how you resolved this issue?

Are you following the "Building a Map Book with ArcGIS" help guide? I think that is how I first learned the process. To create the reference grids, you should start with the "Grid Index Features" tool under Cartography Tools > Data Driven Pages. I have never seen it ask for a template before. It should just ask where to store your output FC, and allow you to select features to base the grids on, set a scale, etc.

ArcGIS Explorer is just viewer software, so I would assume you could not edit features with it. You should check with your local esri sales rep though. I'm sure they can recommend something.

The multiple layer approach certainly gets the job done well enough. I was just hoping to simplify the map product for other end users. Maybe this will be an improvement in the future! Thanks for the reply rfairhur24.
