Hi Clive: I tried the test you suggested, ??exported my ??Upgraded?? metadata as FGDC," by using the Export button on the description tab to export FGDC metadata. After publishing the Exported FGDC XML file with the Publishing Client, I still get the ??Offline icon.? Where would you specify the content type in ArcGIS metadata? Thanks for the suggestion. Any others? ?~k

If you have ??upgraded?? the metadata to ArcGIS metadata schema, and you use the PublishClient tool to upload the metadata, it ends up uploading the ArcGIS metadata and probably does not recognize the FGDC tags anymore. As a test, try exporting your ??upgraded?? metadata as FGDC and uploading that metadata export. Clive

Topic: / SEARCH FILTERS / Additional Options / CONTENT TYPE / Once the FGDC metadata is UPGRADED to ArcGIS metadata, does the Geoportal still ???look??? in this location for the Content Type? /Distribution Information/Resource Description/ Downloadable Data It appears that it is looking somewhere else? Background History: When we implemented Geoportal v9.3.1.sp1 (in 2009), we chose to have every record display a true CONTENT TYPE by making sure the following xpath had CONTENT TYPE information in it: /metadata/distinfo/resdesc We decided to manually populate that field of the metadata document with an appropriate CONTENT TYPE value. The values written in that field would be one of the following: Live Data and Maps Downloadable Data Offline Data Static Map Images Other Documents Applications Geographic Services Clearinghouses Map Files Geographic Activities At the time it was determined our records conformed to the esri-fgdc-definition.xml file. That is the file where the Geoportal checked that xpath for resource type. Currently, in version 1.1 and v1.1.1, when we Publish a record, All the metadata gets published with the ???Offline Data??? icon instead of the ???Downloadable Data??? icon, even though the FGDC metadata XML has been populated with the following: /Distribution Information/Resource Description/ Downloadable Data Do you have any ideas on how I can fix this? I have included an example showing the last two records published showing-up as "Offline Data." The rest of the records were brought over using the migration utility tool which ARE displaying properly with a Downloadable Data icon. ...~k

One easy thing to check for is whether you have changed the status of the published record on the Administration tab from "posted" to "approved." The metadata will be discovered in the search results if it has "approved" status. ~k

THANKS Marten! Your extra instructions helped with a couple of additional steps. First I had to copy the XSLT file to the proper folder: \\...\geoportal\WEB-INF\classes\gpt\search\profiles\CSW_2.0.2_OGCCORE_datagov_GetRecords_Request.xslt Then I had to add the code for the PROFILE to the CSWProfiles.xml file (by figuring it out from, and following your sample for the CSW Clients). <!-- Searches Data.Gov Catalog --> <Profile>... </Profile> Then followed the steps you provided: Except instead, choose the Data.gov profile type. "You would then select: Allow this resource to be found - unchecked Include this endpoint on the federated search list - checked Allow this resource to be synchronized - unchecked" THANKS AGAIN! It seems to be working now, and knowing how to create Repositories for searching other catalogs (in the leap from 9.3.1.sp1 to 10) has eluded me on up until now!

Registering an external catalog (Repository): Following your instructions, I see how to navigate to the ADMINISTRATION --> ADD --> REGISTER a RESOURCE on the NETWORK form... But all I want to do is register the resource so I can SEARCH it! On the SEARCH tab, I want to be able to choose Data.Gov, in addition to "In this Site," and "ArcGIS.com." So I put in the information like I used to: Protocol Type: CSW Host URL: http://catalog.geodata.gov/geoportal/csw/discovery?request=GetCapabilities&service=CSW&version=2.0.2 Title: Data.Gov Profile: ArcIMS 9.3 CSW 2.0.2 OGCCORE Beyond that, what should I put for: Purpose of this Registration? - Allow this resource to be found when searching for metadata? Choose actions to be performed during synchronization? - ? How often do you want this resource to be revisited? - ? It created the record successfully, but it didn't add it to my SEARCH tab --> Records shown from: What is the proper way to set this up for just searching the Data.gov catalog? (I don't want to copy any content.) I would appreciate your help. Thanks...~K
