This question is best answered by ESRI support which means that you have to file a support incident with them: http://support.esri.com/en/ In my experience, ESRI does not answer licensing questions such as yours in the forums. Here is a link that might help: http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/1666/arcgis-server-10-licensing-by-core

An SOE is associated with a map service. Map services are configured to be high isolation or low isolation and the minimum and maximum number of instances are also specified. How is yours configured? I have an SOE which creates a background thread when IObjectConstruct.Construct is called and it works fine. The thread takes some time but it does not use ArcObjects. ArcObjects are COM STA and do not deal with multi-threading well. ESRI refers to the model as "threads in isolation". I have seen very little multi-threaded ArcObject code. My code is written in .NET but my >guess< is that this point is probably not relevant. My assumption is that you have exposed a function via the SOE and are calling it. That function is taking minutes to complete and you are unable to make other REST calls while that function is running. This could relate to how you configured the map service (hence my first question). Is the long running operation occurring on a background thread or on the thread on which the SOE is waiting for a response? An SOE extends/exposes HTTP actions. HTTP actions are not intended to be long running and typically have timeouts associated with them. If you are making a REST call which takes several minutes to complete then I think that you are doing the wrong thing. One alternative is to use something like GeoProcessing -or- do something like have your request issue a ticket as a response which the client can then use to check the progress status.

When the documentation is insufficient to figure out how to write code I use Fiddler in order to see how ESRI does it and then try to replicate the same. That said, the documentation you linked states the following: "This operation adds an attachment to the associated feature (POST only). The addAttachment operation is performed on a feature service feature resource. Since this request uploads a file, it must be a multipart request pursuant to IETF RFC1867." I am pretty sure that this is telling you that you have to literally embed the bits from the file in the body of the POST according to the referenced standard. I suspect that there is a Python library which provides this but I can't help you there.

In the customer care center: https://customers.esri.com You can find the ArcObjects SDKs under both Desktop and Server. ArcObjects SDK for the Microsoft .NET Framework ArcObjects SDK for Java I believe that the C++ portions come in the .NET SDK.

I don't know anything about the file geodatabase API. That said, in .NET you can use the fuslogvw utility to find out additional information when .NET assemblies are loaded. It helps to diagnose assembly load failures.

The current version of ArcGIS Server is x64 only so, IMHO, this is not a technical issue. I think that this is a business issue. ArcGIS Engine is an end of life product which is replaced by the ArcGIS Runtime.

If I search for this AMI under "Community AMIs" it does not find it yet Cloud Builder worked. I think that I will file an incident with ESRI support on this. ESRI support answered my question with the following response: 1. - In the AWS Console, navigate to EC2 > Launch an Instance 2. - In the Wizard, choose 'My AMIs' 3. - Under 'Ownership', please select 'Shared with me'. 4. - Should be able to see a list of Esri AMI's linked to your account I missed step 3. I can now see 6 ESRI AMIs.

This morning I used Cloud Builder to create a site in Amazon. It worked for me. Here are the details of the AMI that it used: AMI ID: Esri ArcGIS 10.2.1 for Server with SQL Server Express (Dec 2013) (ami-cd002fa4) If I search for this AMI under "Community AMIs" it does not find it yet Cloud Builder worked. I think that I will file an incident with ESRI support on this. I assume that you previously requested that ESRI add the AMIs to your account? "If you don't see the AMIs, contact Esri Customer Service and provide them with your Amazon account number so they can share the AMIs with you."

Sorry, but I do not have the answer to your question. This user had a similar problem so you are not alone: https://www.e-education.psu.edu/cloudGIS/node/260 I am also trying to get started with ArcGIS Server on AWS. Where do you see the ESRI AMI(s)? Do they appear under "Community AMIs"? I ask because I had them added to my account a while back and I thought I saw them but now they are gone. I watched a video and it said to search for "esri" under "Community AMIs" but that yields nothing for me. What do you see? For your problem, can you comment on what version of Cloud Builder that you are running? I am just wondering if it is an older version and ESRI has made changes since then.

I recently attend the 2014 ESRI Developer Summit Conference. In the sessions that I attended there was no discussion of any web hosted client functionality other than that which is provided by ArcGIS Online (AGOL). As you probably know, AGOL is a very limited form of ArcGIS Server in the cloud, e.g. no support for image services, custom code, geoprocessing, etc. ESRI did discuss the upcoming release of ArcGIS Professional which is essentially a next generation ArcMap.

But I got a way to avoid the error , that is keeping the fiddler running when publishing the service, then the service will be published succeded. The only thing that I can think of is that Fiddler would introduce a small delay. If the problem you have is timing related then could explain it.

You did not say what failed when you ran your tool. I assume that this is a single machine on which you have both ArcMap and ArcGIS Server installed. I have never written a GP tool but I am trying to understand the process. ArcGIS Server runs as a specific user. By default it creates a user whose name is "arcgis". That account must have access to all the files that you reference in your script. If you login as user arcgis does the script run correctly from ArcMap?

In Visual Studio, I added an "Application Configuration File" project item and then edited it. I used the information in ArcMap.exe.config as a guide and changed the content to values that made sense for what I was trying to do.
