Hi singh22m, Vince is correct, there are several ways to connect and perform operations against an enterprise geodatabase. I would suggest looking at the developer help section to aid in deciding what route to go: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/ For the ArcObjects .NET help. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcobjects-net/conceptualhelp/0001/0001000003s8000000.htm Hope this helps.

Hi Steve, You could try using the oracle ez connect syntax for the instance value: <hostname>/<ora service name>

in my situation, the library was corrupted (for some reason)..... Hi Emad, I've seen the libst_shapelib.so file get corrupted during the copy to a unix machine before if using ftp and ascii transfer mode (default mode). In order to ensure it transfers correctly I've had to set it to binary mode (bin). Then the file seems to be ok and it works. Maybe you were running into something similar? Something to check at least.

According to ESRI documentation: "In geodatabases in Oracle and Informix, the XML columns use ArcSDE XML, which stores information as BLOBs in a series of separate tables. As such, they cannot be directly accessed with SQL." http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#/A_quick_tour_of_geodatabase_system_tables/006z000000tr000000/ As such, the XML metadata cannot be accessed directly by a simple query to the database. (I tried to hunt for this as you have in the past.) I suggest using a Python script/Model to fully export the metadata. Use the XSLT Transformation tool and with an identity XSLT to extract all the metadata. You can save the code below as a XLST document to feed into the tool. See: http://www.usingxml.com/Transforms/XslIdentity <?xml version="1.0" ?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<!-- IdentityTransform -->
<xsl:template match="/ | @* | node()">
<xsl:copy>
<xsl:apply-templates select="@* | node()" />
</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet> In continuing the quote from the same documentation link (first one) above it also says you can query the GDB_Items_vw, etc.: "To allow you to view the contents of the XML columns in the system tables in geodatabases in Oracle, two system views exist that store the contents from the geodatabase system table XML columns in a CLOB data type. The GDB_Items_vw shows the contents of the Definition, Documentation, and ItemInfo columns from the GDB_Items table in CLOB columns. The GDB_ItemRelationships_vw shows the contents of the Attributes column of the GDB_ItemRelationships table in a CLOB column. The contents of the CLOB columns can be read as text. When querying these views, you extract the string from the CLOB column, convert it to an XML type, and execute an XPath query on it. Be aware that if you attempt to create an XML type for a column that contains a blank string, it will fail with the message "XML parsing failed" because Oracle does not support this. To query the contents of the CLOB columns, you must configure the Oracle server to accept SQL connections. See Configuring the Oracle listener to use SQL for more information." And some examples are available here in the doc as well. For example: Example: Finding domain owners using SQL Maybe you are looking for the information in the "DEFINITION" column rather than the "DOCUMENTATION" column?

Hi Stefano, Are you using 11.2.0.3 or 12.2.0.3 (is this released yet)? From what I can tell it is fixed in a patch set on top of 11.2.0.2 and in 12.1.0.1. I suggest checking the info in this KB article and then following up with Oracle if you get an hs_core file as described: KB38823 - Bug: Spatial Type for Oracle: st_intersects can fail with error ORA-028579 Otherwise yes, please open an incident with your local distributor. Thanks.

Hi Ellen, Thanks for the update. The incident you mention does look like it was resolved through an oracle fix (not an esri sde fix) on 11.2.0.2, and if your testing shows it is fixed there that is great. Hopefully you'll be able to get production upgraded at some point. The network callback error is very general in nature and can occur for many different reasons (specific data, os type, specific queries, etc.). Because of this, it is hard to tell if Stefano is running into the same issue or not (the oracle bug may or may not be resolved in 11.2.0.3. I would hope it would still be fixed there, but something to check with oracle). The only way to know for sure is to narrow down specific test cases, test on different environments, and proceed from there depending on the results.

Hi Stefano, Ellen, These network callback errors should not occur and depend on the data used in the query and srid's as you've noticed. We'd like to take a look at these cases so we can fix them as soon as possible. If you have narrowed down the geometries that fail, you can try getting them as text (sde.st_astext) and then run the query against dual. If it reproduces the problem I can look into it. For example:
set long 9999
select sde.st_asText(shape) from myFCPolys where objectid = 1;
SDE.ST_ASTEXT(SHAPE)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
POLYGON (( 0.00000000 0.00000000, 20.00000000 0.00000000, 20.00000000 20.00000000, 0.00000000 20.00000000, 0.00000000 0.00000000))
select sde.st_asText(shape) from myFCPoints where objectid = 1;
SDE.ST_ASTEXT(SHAPE)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
POINT (10.00000000 10.00000000)
select sde.st_intersects(sde.st_geometry('polygon ((0 0, 20 0, 20 20, 0 20, 0 0))',4326), sde.st_geometry('point (10 10)', 4326) ) from dual;
SDE.ST_INTERSECTS(SDE.ST_GEOMETRY('POLYGON((00,200,2020,020,00))',4326),SDE.ST_G
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Otherwise would you be able to contact technical support, please? Also, what release are you on? You might try the latest st_shapelib.dll (or libst_shapelib.so on unix) along with upgrading the geodatabase packages for your release. We've made some fixes recently that may help. Thanks.

Hi Marianne, Is it possible that the feature classes were in the production geodatabase with archiving enabled before and then were deleted? If so, the _H tables would remain in the geodatabase unless specifically deleted after the original delete of the feature classes. Then when copying in the data again, the _H tables would appear in the list of tables and not actually be the _H tables of the newly copied feature classes.

Hi Jhon, You may also want to consider setting it up with the extproc.ora file in the $ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin directory instead of using the listener. From the oracle doc: "The default configuration for external procedures does not require a network listener to work with Oracle Database and the extproc agent. The extproc agent is spawned directly by Oracle Database and eliminates the risks that extproc might be spawned by Oracle Listener unexpectedly. This default configuration is recommended for maximum security. " From: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18283_01/network.112/e10836/advcfg.htm

Hi Morten, It probably is something we need to fix or have already fixed...we'd have to look at the data ("myfeatureclass"). Would you be able to open a tech support incident and send the data, or even narrow it down to a particular geometry in the feature class that causes the failure, please? Thanks

Hi Rati, The -103 error looks like it might map to the sql type out of memory error. This sounds like something we may have fixed already in 10.2.1. However, to know for sure we'd need to investigate further. As Vince suggests, would you please contact tech support so we can check it out? Thanks.
