@AnibalMmartinez Thank you for this posting. Apologies for responding in English and hoping a translation tool will help convey the message correctly.. It will be the responsibility of your organization to work directly with Docker to obtain a license for Docker Desktop. We are working on adding support for Mirantis Container Runtime (MCR, enterprise edition of Docker) in a future release, so there will be alternative option for setting up a Docker environment on Windows.

Yes, there are some considerations when using Notebook Server with Docker Desktop on Windows. Please see "Prerequisites and constraints for Windows systems" section of this help topic. Primarily, there are three considerations: Hyper-V needs to be enabled on windows, DFS requirements for multi-node notebook server sites, and Docker Desktop requirement of user being logged into the machine.

Hi Justin, Thanks for this question. At this time MCR is the only option that is available for RHEL 8. Considering the cost for a basic MCR license ($500 per node and minimum 20 nodes at this time), the other choice for you would be Windows (plus Docker Desktop on Windows), if Ubuntu is not an option. You can have a mixed OS configuration with ArcGIS Enterprise on Linux, and just the notebook server installed on Windows. Just to know, would any other Linux OS currently supported by ArcGIS Enterprise (may not be supported in Notebook Server) work for your organization?

hi @JesseHandler Suggestions above from @curtvprice will work. Alternately Notebooks have a Data access API which can be used to upload files to the workspace directory. The team is looking into adding support for Data Acces API in ArcGIS API for Python in a future release. In the mean team time here is the workflow to upload a file to the workspace directory described via curl commands. You can use this API info to code this in programming language of choice. Step 1: Generate a token for the user (replace <username> and <password> with appropriate values. don't use <>) curl -d 'username=<username>&password=<password>&f=json&client=referer&referer=https' https://www.arcgis.com/sharing/rest/generateToken This will return a response as below. You will need the token value for the requests below. {"token":"6bkID9qoDHljg6zH3FX4ktUema_pFDme_hB-IK9-EtTugjamw-hntVaETno.","expires":1624653125658,"ssl":true} Step 2: Obtain the data access API endpoint for your AGOL organization. Replace <token> and <username> with appropriate values. curl -d 'token=<token>&f=json&storeType=notebookWorkspace' -H 'Referer: https' https://www.arcgis.com/sharing/rest/content/users/<username>/generateDirectAccessUrl This will return a response as below specific to your AGOL org. You will use the url for uploading the file. {"url":"https://notebooksdataaccess9.arcgis.com/yourorgid/arcgis/admin/dataaccess/azureblob/notebooksWorkspace"} Step 3: HTTP PUT the file in your workspace. In the example below, I am uploading a file named 1c.png located in my local machines Downloads directory. Please note the upload url returned from request above is suffixed with the desired folder path\file name. In this case below, the file will be uploaded to the root workspace (/arcgis/home) directory. curl -T ~/Downloads/1c.png -H 'Referer: https' -H 'Content-Type: application/octet-stream' -H 'x-ms-blob-type: BlockBlob' -H 'x-ms-version: 2020-02-10' https://notebooksdataaccess9.arcgis.com/myorgid/arcgis/admin/dataaccess/azureblob/notebooksWorkspace/1c.png?token=<token>

hi @Justin_Greco , Thank you for this post. We have tested ArcGIS Notebook Server 10.9 with RHEL 8.3 and plan to update the web help to indicate support for this platform in 10.9. https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/notebook/latest/install/linux/welcome-to-the-arcgis-notebook-server-install-guide.htm If you are interested in installing Notebook Server 10.9 on RHEL 8, you can follow the current install guide. As a prerequisite, you will have to install Mirantis Container Runtime (MCR, formerly Docker EE). Please let us know if there are any questions.

Hi @SFM_WillBrewer , BUG-000140078 is now marked as non_repro as we cannot reproduce this with Notebook in AGOL or ArcGIS Enterprise. Please try it out again with Notebooks in AGOL to see if this works for your use case.

Hi AZietara, Thank you for this posting. Is this using Java webadaptor on Linux? Can you try a different context name for the notebook server's webadaptor? Not sure if this might be caused webadaptor context named as "notebook". Thanks, Ravi

Hi Angus, yes. Docker 2.1.x can be installed on 2019, but not 2016. For windows 2016, you will have to use a previous 2.0.x version of Docker Desktop for Windows.

Hi Angus, You would need Docker Desktop for Windows (aka CE). Docker Engine is included in Docker Desktop. Simply follow the installation guide here: Install Docker for ArcGIS Notebook Server—ArcGIS Notebook Server Installation Guide (10.7) | ArcGIS Enterprise. It will guide you through the steps for downloading Docker Desktop. Specifically it will ask you to download Docker Desktop from this Docker Hub page. Thanks

Hi Angus, Thank you for this post. You have to use Docker Desktop for Windows for reasons mentioned in my earlier post. Notebook server requires support for Linux containers (Moby Linux VM) and this is available only on Docker Desktop on Windows. Docker Desktop installation includes Docker Engine. Docker Desktop has a version (2.0.x, 2.1.x etc) and the Docker Engine has its version as well (19.x.x) etc. Documentation is referencing the requirements with respect to the engine version that is installed with Docker Desktop. Please let us know if there are any questions. Thanks

Hi Kjell, After login to the machine, if Docker is not started, you can manually start Docker by clicking on "Windows (Start) Menu > Docker Desktop". After Docker starts verify Docker is running as expected using docker version or docker run hello-world commands. Docker Desktop stops running if the install user logs out of the machine. Do not logout, but rather lock the machine to ensure Docker keeps running and Notebooks are accessible. Thanks

Hello, I would like to update/clarify my earlier comment. I was referring to these bare metal windows instances available in AWS. These instances allow enabling Hyper-V which is a requirement for running Notebook Server on Windows. There is very limited choice for bare metal instances and they are fairly large/expensive machines. Per system requirements for Notebook server, only Ubuntu AWS instances are supported. Please see ArcGIS Notebook Server system requirements—ArcGIS Enterprise system requirements | ArcGIS Enterprise for more info. You can use mixed configuration of ArcGIS Notebook server deployed on Ubuntu with ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows.

Hi Matej, Thanks for this post. ArcGIS Notebook server on Windows requires Docker for Desktop on Windows due to the support needed for running Moby Linux VM. Support for ArcGIS Notebook server with Docker EE on Windows is on the roadmap (post 10.7.1). ArcGIS Notebook server on Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) is supported with Docker EE. Can you use a physical machine running Windows 2019 for installing ArcGIS Notebook server instead of a VM with nested virtualization? Alternately Notebook server could be installed on Microsoft Azure which supports machines with nested virtualization. Thanks Ravi
