Hi Harry, ObjectIDs are required for the layer to be used in either part of the Select by Location process. I wouldn't expect XY Event layers to behave the same way as Geometry Objects; Geometry Objects are made specifically to work with data in a temporary state, XY Event Layers are used to display XY data, if the tabular data being displayed does not have ObjectIDs, further steps are necessary to be able to interact with the data spatially. Best, Melanie S.

Hi Harry, ObjectIDs are required to make selections, many delimited text files or tables from OLE DS connections do not have ObjectID fields. Exporting to a shapefile creates an ObjectID field which is why you are then able to use Select by Location. You can export your table as a .dbf, this will add an ObjectID field and the resulting XY Event Layer will then be selectable. Best, Melanie S.

As the field is a numeric field, ArcMap is not actually storing the commas as part of the value. If you right click the field name > Properties... > Numeric > Do you have Show thousands separators checked? Best, Melanie S.

Are both datasets in the same projection? If not, the features will be merged but the second of the datasets will not display in the correct location. Best, Melanie S.

If you merged features that do not share a boundary, you may be able to run the multipart to singlepart tool . Best, Melanie S.

Hi Shafayat, You may want to try using the Integrate Tool . This tool will close the gap between lines within a set tolerance. You want to make sure the tolerance makes sense for your data, if you set the tolerance too large it can do strange things to your lines and if the tolerance is too low, it will not be effective. This tool modifies the input data so make sure to make a copy of your data first. Best, Melanie S.

Hi Eric, This is a known bug in 10.1 but should be fixed in 10.1 sp 2. The current workaround is to use the Delete Rows tool found at ArcToolbox > Data Management Tools > Table > Delete Rows, as you have been doing. Best, Melanie S.

Hi Michael, Please take a look at this KB article: FAQ: Why does the data bit depth increase when a raster is projected, rotated, or clipped? http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/28470 If your raster contains values that range from 0 to 65535, ArcMap may assign the raster a NoData value of 65536 pushing the bit requirement up to 32. If your data does not span the entire 0 to 65535 you can specify a no data value within the range allowing ArcMap to output a 16 bit raster. Best, Melanie
