In our testing of the DJI M300RTK v06.x, v07.x and v09.x firmware, our flight team discovered an issue with mission progress. This issue was found to be introduced in DJI's SDK.

If the app is set in the background or the drone loses connection to the flight app for more than 5 seconds, the app's mission progress will stop and present the following behavior.

  • Progress bar, photo count, and waypoint progress will stop updating progress but photos are still being captured and saved on the drone.
  • Pause and the home button in the app will stop responding. Return to home can still be triggered from the remote controller.

We have discovered doing the following actions for a prolonged time during a flight may result in the previously mentioned.

  • Closing or Backgrounding the app

  • Disconnecting the cable between iPad and remote controller

In some cases, if the the drone reconnects to the app, mission progress will stop from the point of disconnection and the drone will ask to refly that portion of the mission after landing, even if the mission was completed.

This  if the connection between the flight app and drone is lost, the next flight the drone will start from the last waypoint before the connection was lost.

The Esri team has reported this to DJI and they are aware of this issue, however there is no timeline yet for a fix, case #552.

We recommend using the V05.01.01.00 firmware for the best experience. If you already are using V6.x, V7.x or V9.x firmware and experience reconnection issues between the drone and the Flight app, you can downgrade to V5 firmware. For instructions on how to downgrade your vehicle firmware, follow this video tutorial and select version 05.01.01.00.

Thank you for your patience and we will keep you updated on Esri Community’s Site Scan Blog page.
